Guest guest
Quincy , this puts another face on what happened. This is devil work by the powers that be . This is really some perverted work. Which does not surprise me at all. The politics of the area has a long record of being corrupt . Coupled with the Bush camp doing nothing to assist the people . All based on color. Yet New Orleans had a charm that I always loved. The area around the French Quarter and the Bayou gave me that home feeling. Although the smells of the food could drive one insane. ( as I am on live food) The smell of gravy & french roast still smells good to me. Perhaps in another life. I did enjoy food at a vegetarian restaurant across from the old whole foods; near Metarie There is also a strong live food community there, and permaculture community . If you would remember on Thanksgiving the couple that were at Coy's with me were from there (Humma LA) I have not been able to make contact with anyone yet. I would like to extend a invite for them or anyone from the Live food community to come stay with me. I will make contact thru the red cross However I will support your benefit . I will make food raw and cooked vegetarian food, and sorrel. I will make a large portion for you to sell This is my gift as this is what I can do well. I will be in contact with you . Or feel free to call me 804-863-0635 Blessing , Lynda
Guest guest
Greetings everyone, My name is Quincy Jones and my wife is Djenaba Kai Jones. She is belongs to the Raw Soul group. We would like to tell everyone that we were actually in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit the city. We arrived to New Orleans on that Saturday for my wife's mother's birthday. No one told us that a hurricane was coming to New Orleans. When sunday came around, that is when Mayor Nagin ordered a mandatory evacuation of the city. But by that time, everything was closed down, including the airport and rental car places. We had no way of getting out so we stayed in our hotel. Fortunately we were in the JW Marriott on Canal street in the French Quarter. After Katrina passed on monday, we were actually able to go outside and walked around. There was not that much flooding at all on canal street or in other parts of New Orleans. There was a loss of power, phones, and very low running water. The hotel mgmt wanted to preserve what non perishable food they had, so we were down to one meal a day. When we woke up that Tuesday morning, that is when we saw all of the flooding. Some of the people who work in our hotel and live in New Orleans say that the levee did not break, but that is was broken to save other parts of New Orleans and sacrifice the 9th ward district, which is the majority black and poor part of New Orleans. One women said that she walked to the 9th ward district, and at the time the water as about 3 or 4ft high, she said a police officer told her to turn around and go back because they are going to break the levee and this area will flood to about 15ft. to 20ft of water. There was also a lady on the radio on Tuesday after the katrina hit, who said that there is no one at the pumping station to even turn the pumps on to begin pumping water out of New Orleans. I believe that there is some truth to what these stories. Also on tuesday and into Wednesday, we saw a lot of police and army trucks coming into the city, and then leaving the city without taking anyone with them. There were army people, police in the city on Tues and Wed. who could have started evacuating people out of New Orleans, but chose not to. They were just concerned with they so called looting. By Wed. the living conditions in the city were getting worse so we had to somehow get out of the city. Everyone else had pretty much evacuated from the hotel out of the city. Thankfully we were finally able to pay someone $500 on Wednesday to drive us to Baton Rouge airport. We spent the night at the airport, we caught a flight out of Baton Rouge on Thurs. afternoon and arrived back in the D.C. area thursday night. Me and my wife are so deeply angry and frustrated about how these agencies and gov treat poor people and black people. People in New Orleans could have been saved the day of the hurricane, on monday and tuesday. There are alot of questions that need to be answered and a lot of people, i.e. this gov and fema that need to be held accountable. Me and my wife are going to do everything we can to assist the New Orleans survivors with helping them put their lives back togther. We have a deep passion to help and get the word out about what happened because we are so thankful to God for allowing us to make it of New Orleans safely. We are hosting a fundraiser on Sept 18th, at Cafe Mawonaj. There will be spoken word artists and a Afro-Soul Acoustic performance by KuKu. Please email djenabakai for more information and visit our website at www.neemainstitute.org. Hurrican Katrina caused damage, but human error and lack of concern for the poor and blacks caused lasting devastation to the people in New Orleans. Peace and Blessings Quincy Jones
