Greetings Ladies:

It is a known fact that WE are the nurturers of society. We take on seemingly, the weight of the world i.e., we're the fathers, mothers, wives, significant others, workers, accountants, chefs, instructors, chauffers, councelors, comforters, life-givers, maids, you name it, we do it. As if all of this isn't enough, we now have the task of dealing with the mass of turmoil, distress and caos that's going on in ours lives today as a result of KATRINA which promises not to go away for quite some time. Although most of us did not lie directly in her path, we are rippled with the horrific after effects, which has left me personally, very distraught and angry. The word "disbelief" can no longer be defined.

There is an urgent need right now, to be able to retreat to some place that is tranquil which will allow us to release, recollect, regroup and return to our everyday life which has been so dramatically altered. Life goes on and we must remained focused.

I admit that I may be a little late arriving and experiencing what may very well be routine in some of your lives but for the sake of those who are like me, I'd like to share my experience and maybe inspire some of you to take advantage of this offer of service.

Today I experienced my first professional Massage Treatment. (WOW!) Complete elegance! When I stepped into this place it was as if I'd left the world behind. First of all, I noticed how extremely clean and organized everything was, very assuring. There was the most pleasant soft scents in the air and relaxing music playing throughout the place. I was offered a comfortable seat along with my choice of tea, water or juice.

Inside of just a few minuets I was hosted to an exquisit Pedi-cure (Ocean Breeze), Massage Treatment (The Surrender), and Mani-cure (Warm & Creamy).

I've found that "place" and words really can't discribe the feeling of renewal. All I can say is, if you really need to have the edge taken off then take a few minuets and browse the site of "SOLACE" Therapeutic Center For Women, Safiyyah Blackshear, Owner featuring "Natural Hand & Foot Treatments" by Benita, Natural Nail Care Specialist.

Solace can be found at http://www.puresolace.net/ If you schedule during the month of September you'll receive discounts from $10 to half off certain treatments.

Hurry Ladies, go and have yourselves pampered!

(Sorry guys, I wasn't successful in finding such services dedicated to men but as soon as I do you'll be informed)

***This service is offered only in the Washington, DC Metro Area***

Good Health to You

Greetings Dana,

First, thank you Elaine for placing this information on , and

I am very glad that you enjoyed your time with us, and we enjoyed

your presence as well.

However, I do not think that it is odd for Elaine to have posted this

message in light of the Katrina disaster. As a matter of fact, I

think that it is just the opposite, and very essential that we

continue to take care of ourselves in addition to caring for the

victims of Katrina. Since as we all know, we are of no use to others

if we are not whole and healthy ourselves. It is no different from

others posting menus and classes. All of these things are meant to

bring us to our best selves, to nourish, strengthen, and balance us

so that we can continue to be powerful givers to each other and this

earth.

My hope is that Solace will be a place of peaceful refuge against the

stress of this world. Of course we would love to have your business,

but there is more to us than that. We have people who just come in

for a cup of tea and to talk and that is how they de-stress. We

allow others to use the space to host meetings and special

gatherings, without having to scheduling services. And we offer

discount coupons and gift certificates to other businesses as a means

of promoting their interests along with our own. Also, I posted a

message earlier (The Struggle) about trying to transition to the

living foods lifestyle, which is how I met Elaine. And I would love

for any of you just to stop by, say hello, and maybe share a recipe

with me or just chat.

Everything on this earth is about balance, giving, receiving,

exchanging. Whether that is food, love, advice, clothing, or

services, it is all in an effort to keep the cycle of life flowing in

the right direction and at the best speed. May you all be healthy

and at peace with life and whatever is contained therein. Thank you

so much Dana for your response. Hopefully we will meet at one of the

events sometime soon.

Best regards,

Safiyyah

Greetings Dana,

Quite the contrary and rightfully so, we are all entitled to our opinions and to voice them even, but it is not implied that everyone should comply with them.

It is my belief that in addition to whatever else I've choose to do as far as lending a helping hand whether it be opening the door of my home to someone in need, volunteering my services or offering monitary donations, through it all I must remain focused which has not been easy. I've found myself just as overwhelmed, disgusted and p'd off as Ayanna who wrote the note that Sunyatta posted. New Orleans and the citizens who are suffering, displaced or otherwise are held in a special place in my heart also, and I am not from LA. I also believe that in order for anyone to render the very best that they can to help they must take care of themselves. No one can give what they don't have.

Does anyone know for a fact that I"ve not cried everyday since this disaster began to unfold? Does anyone know for a fact that I am not waiting to hear from loved ones in New Orleans? Does anyone know for a fact to what extent I have gone or the depths of it to deal with being so overwhelmed? So what if my experience yesterday helped to return me to some sense of normalcy? Who knows whether or not it may also help someone else?

I truely hope that it is not assumed by anyone that I'm spending my days in a day spa while all around me is shattering.

There are quite a few hurdles that I've had to jump through earlier on this year that made me conclude that nothing else in life could upset me. I attributed that feeling to my Live Foods Life Style. Sadly though, I was wrong. So without bearing the details of my personal struggle, I contend that there will be no significant nurturing of others if you are undernurished yourself.

Bottom line is, we must all do what we can and as much of it in spite of the high levels of distress facing us now. Anyone who knows me, also knows that when I lose my smile, then something is wrong with me.

In keeping with part of the mission of this group which is to exchange good dialogue, I want to thank you for posting your opinion.

good health to you

Elaine

Oh, thank you for the info. I am worn out from the media coverage about Katrina and need to get a massage. I am on the list to volunteer at the amory, but if I don't hear back by the weekend, I am going to costco and just show up with some things. Rae

Hi Elaine,

I just wanted you to know-pampering isn't limited to just us women. I work as a reflexologist at Robert Andrew Salon & Day Spa in Gambrills, Maryland. We offer many services and we cater to men and women, we even have a men's spa where men can receive pedicures and manicures in their own spa. We offer couples massages as well. Men are entitled to rejuvenate themselves just as much as women so spread the word and check out the website at www.robertandrew.com

Thank You,

Tina Davis
