We need to get to work to nuture others, make donations, volunteer your time. Do

something. Watching the TV reports won't fix this. Here is a note from one of my

Mocha Mom sisters on her experience today. She is from Louisiana. She can be

reached directly for donations or volunteer coordination. We are still taking

donations at our bellydance classes as well.

Greetings all,

I've been down at the DC Armory this afternoon (baby in tote). IT'S BAD!!!

REAL BAD!!! I'm gonna be as brief as possible, because I'm overwhelmed, but

I'm telling you know matter what you've heard....the Red Cross's efforts are

substandard, and I'm pissed about it. I was only there about 2 hours

immediately following the arrival of the Evacuees, but another sister I met

had been there for two days helping out and she was so overwhelmed today

that she said that she mentally could not handle it and was not coming back!

Brothers and Sisters, while it's true our people have shelter in a building,

THIS IS NO PLACE FOR CHILDREN!!! The military is walking around there like

they are guarding Beirut (very intimidating to me, so can you imagine what

the children are thinking). Outside of that, it's disorderly....babies need

milk, food, and diapers. WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING???? The volunteer

sister told me that nursing mothers should show up in droves with prepared

milk for nursing infants, she spoke to the media about this issue (look for

coverage on the local news broadcasts).

The Evacuee's are in dire need of so much and Red Cross just keeps turning

people away. Mental Health professionals...I URGE YOU TO SHOW UP AND DEMAND

TO BE PLACED ON THE SPECIALIZED LIST. YOUR SERVICES ARE CRITICAL NOW!!!!

Call (202) 727-1000. Also family, there are babies up in there without

mothers, fathers, or any family whatsoever. This is an issue that has been

under-reported. Upon inquiry I've been told that they are expecting 300

children without parents. What is to happen with these children, somebody

please tell me??? Anyway, trust that my words haven't even begun to paint

the grim picture of what I saw in terms of systematic organization. All I

know is that amid our own personal grieving, we've got to continue to

MOBILIZE, ORGANIZE, PRAY, AND put PRESSURE on local officials to get this

thing RIGHT! I'm going back this evening, I'll be there tomorrow, and the

next day, and next....until I'm " OFFICIALLY " on the inside. TO HELL WITH RED

CROSS they may do some good, but what I see now is unacceptable!!! Sorry if

I've offended, just need to let you know the real deal from the frontlines.

Call me on the cell if you wish to join me (301) 537-8354.

Great, I will. You should try to take the four hour red cross training, this will allow on sight contact. Also check with Ayana i understand that she is developing a list of individuals who will have contact. I was on sight for several hours. Things are very tight now, but I'm told that in a week or two they will need more people to voluteer when the "hipe" wears down. I am going for red cross training asap.

P. S. I was told that currently there are about 30 children on sight who are being cared for by Child protective service workers. I think we need to be more organized in our efforts and present proposals from an organized body to the agencies in charge, DC Govt. and the Red Cross. Don't waste your time going down, get on the list and get training first. If you already work for DC Gov. you maybe able to sign up thru your office.

You can do some networking outside the building as the brother sisters come in and out. They are not accepting donations on sight.

Peace

Z

Dr. Sunyatta,

I've been trying to contact Ayanna at the phone number provided however her v-mailbox is full and not accepting more messages. Additionally, I left my name and phone number at the 202-727-1000 phone number on Tuesday but no one has called me back yet. I'm eager to get down to the Armory and help out, so can you advise as to what I should do from here?

Regards,

Sonia

Ayanna. We spoke with you this morning and you asked me to send you another email since you did not get the one I sent last week. I want to volunteer to help in any way I can,

particularly at the Armory. Please try hard to get us into the Armory as I would like to make one on one contact with some of our sisters and brothers to access their needs personally.

Greetings Ayanna and family,

My husband David and I would definitely be able to provide a home for a child as long as we can get some help re: homecare while I work-(and one night/1class of grad school).

I am having no luck with the red cross. I intend to speak with Alonzo Brown on Saturday, but if you have any info- I'd be most appreciative

Blessings
