Guest guest
I am beginning to think that our help (the black communities help) is not wanted. I emailed the mayor's office asking why there has not been a full page ad placed in area newspapers, press conferences given or radio announcements, telling those of us that want to help who the contact people are! I have not received a response and I emailed the mayor's office two days ago. I understand that the safety of the people is supposed to be first on the list, but who are the contact people, why is the red cross not stepping forward, there must be a lot of money involved, our tax dollars and contributions. I apologize if I sound cynical but think about it. Rae

Guest guest
Please don't banish me from the group - but I don't see the "power's that be" wanting help from anyone - black, white, Hispanic. It's just a big mess with so much to organize that it will take a long time to get things together. It is a real shame, but it is NOT the super rich wanting to get rid of anyone else. Honest! now I'm by no means rich, but I know many who are and I've only seen people who truly desire to help people learn to also have success in whatever their dreams. I am white and was brought up in a home where my father grew up in China and then he and my Mom went to Burma for 5 years with the YMCA. We were always taught that everyone is precious to God and we were taught to be generous and kind and to work hard and to help teach others. Sayings like, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can feed himself for a lifetime." were common. Color was irrelevant and it still is irrelevant to me, but what I am observing is that there is a real difference in the way many folks perceive things and interpret things. I realize this is based a lot on one's experiences, but I honestly am shocked at some of the comments on here. I've been deeply offended that different political parties and different income levels could be perceived as so incredibly evil. I am so saddened that there is so much anger being expressed and so many negative assumptions being made. I have been brought up to always assume the best about people and certainly there are times when I find that things aren't good, but overall I think everyone is TRYING to make this world a better place and we just have very different ways of doing it. I do NOT agree with many of the politicians out there now, but I respect them as fellow human beings and realize they are doing what they feel is best. It just happens to be very different from MY way of doing things. Anyway, I'm sure I've rattled some cages here, so feel free to "set me straight", but I sign off as The forever Optimist, trusting God's love to prevail. Guest guest
Nancy and to others in the group, I was at the Washington Monument this weekend and watched as a old white gentleman was punched in the stomach, then someone through water on him, many in the crowd cursed at him (very derogatory words), and more. Do you know what he was doing? He was just holding a sign that said " Bush Lied, thousands died " or something to that effect. I had to go over there and stand with him so people would not actually jump over the fence and kick his butt. And you know who the crowd was? The Freedom Walkers that were participating in remembering the 9/11 victims. While many of the well to do were sitting in the homes in plush suburban neighborhoods drinking their coffee, reading their paper, people in New Orleans were suffering the worst crime, drugs, Mardi Gras and its visitors, and so on. Nobody wanted to help for whatever reason. All of a sudden Katrina comes and yes the country reacts but government did not yet again step up to help New Orleans until too late. They could have strengthen those levy's a long time ago, but did not. Watch how New Orleans is going to change after this and Katrina just helped with the destruction. Much like D.C they are going to bring in outsiders to live and build housing that the natives cannot afford, just like D.C. The face of N.O is going to change because, if you noticed, the " well to do " is moving the " not well to do " to certain areas. This is happening in many places in this wonderful country and it really started happening when Bush came into office. Let me correct myself, as a kid, I started to notice it when Reagan was in office because that was during my time. So many main point is that you are on another side of the fence that is not affected by government the way we are and you don't see the things we as minorities see everyday. There are a few people who are brave enough to step out of their comfort zone, like that man at the Washington Monument with the sign, to actually do something to improve America as a whole, but most just talk and stay on their side of the fence without experience something real to make their life meaningful. I wrote this fast so please excuse any misspellings or grammatical errors...lol N'Gai >
Guest guest
Welcome to America Toby ! That's how it is done. Reagan started by taking the social security from the widows , and children . This was done when the children were ready to go to college. Let's not forget the Traffic Controllers. The list of shame is too long to mention. So many people have suffered under this president. They to rent or borrow the Video the Real 911. It shows the true story . I think the saddest thing is that most people in the country are just like the folks that were attacking that man. Why would it be necessary to hit him ? They believe all the lies and tricks. They chose to ignore the state of the country . The news and media are doing a fantastic job of brain control. It is so clear that most of the brain cells in this country have been destroyed . You are so right on the deal with New Orleans . After hearing about the bombs at the levee. I was sure that the plan involved Real Estate. The land on The Bayou has not be sold for years, You can lease it . But it is not for sale. The bayou is so beautiful lots of big companies rented or leased camps there. Now if they can convince folks it's over they can come and build.
Guest guest
I wanted to share something that I learned from some of the African Americans natives of New Orleans - they call their city - The place that CARE forgot. It breaks my heart as it is despairing. I really pray that we send as much energy and that we pray to whom we deem God that God makes the changes necessary and be in control!
