Guest guest
Hi Chelle et all ( strange name ?!) I started a similar thread weeks back and I was condemmed for feeding my rescued cats on commercial cat food rather than lashing out over 8n quid just to find out ( as many others have ) that vegecat is not what they want to eat. Even though in one case she was so ill she had to be fed as she was too weak to feed herself, i was still forcing this un natural ( who said that vegecat was natural? ) food/ lifestyle on them. I was also told that I was wrong to keep pets, again even though as I explained, they are free to come and go as they please. I also do not believe in keeping pets and am dead against people who breed animals for captivity, or having any animal guests unless you are saving a life. It only shows that not all vegans are tolerant/ well adjusted/ even dare I say it humane! What ever happened to peace love and happiness. Guest guest
I don't see that it is cruel to feed an animal. It is better than not feeding it, and it is better to feed it a healthy diet than an unhealthy diet and the oldest known dog in the world is vegan. Guest guest
I for one don't have any pets either. I do however have a lovely adopted furry son named Reno who's nationality is a Shepard/Chow mix. He is my " first-born " and as much a member of this family as meself. nikki With our thoughts we make the world. Guest guest
Tom said, " ... its good to learn what you're REALLY putting in your body. My biggest surprise of all was that in most Jell-O packages they use pig tallow to make it jell. " I guess you didn't realize that Jell-O isn't vegetarian. Gelatin comes from hooves and connective tissue of various animals. This sort of goes back to the discussion (was it on this list or another of Pat's lists?) about medicine in gelatin capsules. There are some vegetarian gelling agents, usually from seaweed, like agar - sometimes called agar-agar. from Maida Citizens for Pets in Condos, http://www.petsincondos.org South Florida Vegetarian Events, http://www.soflavegevents.net
Guest guest
Thanks, Maida. I wonder if we can say often enough: read the ingredients. That is, if you care about what's in your food. For those who are just cutting back on this or that or aiming for a semi health regime and/or trendy lifestyle that just happens to coincide with some vegetarian pracitices, then hey, don't bother. Those who are really trying, for whatever reason to avoid animal foods have to read. Me? Oh I find it very very difficult - and so does my optometrist. Indeed I remember the days when ingredients didn't have to be listed on packages - it was all a secret formula, you know? LOL But now,'tis different. They're there in fine print. I use a pocket magnifier - but I do it with a great deal of dash and style, I assure you <grin> Pat , " Maidawg " <maidawg@c...> wrote: > Tom said, " ... its good to learn what you're REALLY putting in your > body.
