Guest guest
Greetings, I have been having a hard time.. I have had 3 allergic reactions in the past 4 months. All with meditteranean food.. actually the first time I was actually just out at an american restaurant and was eating on the salad bar.. Had a garbanzo/chick pea salad, beets, raw broccoli, and a veggie stir fry...*that was the first case* all of a sudden my hair started itching I mean BADLY!!!!!! and then the back of my neck and then every place that has hair... looked in the mirror and my face looked like i had been stung by about a thousand bees... swollen... hives and all... went to the hospital....pain so bad and such they put me on morphine..........whewwwwww it was the worst... all they said was oh you had an allergic reaction... UH DUH!!!!!!! of course I did..lol So never really figured out what it was because they really didnt inspect anything and I also thought since I had eaten all of the ingredients before that it could of just been food poisoning or cross contamination.... 2nd time about 2 months later... decided to go to the Meditteranean restaurant... Had stuffed grape leaves, tabouleh salad, jerusalem salad, lentil soup, falafel and i think i had hummus that day same thing about 20 minutes later head started itching really bad and then the same as before back of the neck on down... this time I wasnt as afraid so i didnt go to the EMERGENCY room... Emergency room prices are the WORST!! so i just consultd with the pharmacist and then got some benadryl anti itch gel and liquid.. okay so Sunday I went out with some friends and all i had was hummus and pita bread.... so.. once again head itching and so forth... I DONT KNOW what it could be..... I have eaten all of the ingredients that Ive seen in the food before... is it possible to develop an allergic reaction as you get older?? ?please can anyone help me figure out what it was that I am allergic to.. or anything that someone may have heard alot of people are allergic too.... thanks Rain The measurement of wo(man) is not where s(he) stands in times of COMFORT and CONVENIENCE. But where s(he)stands during times of TRIAL and TRIBULATION.. Your body doesn't want it anymore, you now have a sweet taboo which is the way our people spoke of allergy. Letting go of what is no longer functional and listening to your body's innate wisdom, is a mark of a wise person. It reminds me of the time I was on a macrobiotic diet, then I was with child, my body would not tolerate all that rice anymore. Rice began to make me sick, even the smell of it cooking. I stopped eating it. I began to crave black cherries like a crazy woman. I eat them daily along with the concentrated form made into a juice. Later during the pregnancy I lost a lot of blood, the iron came in handy, maybe it saved my life................So just go with it. Lately I have been eating broccoli, just broken up into flowers with some dress. I never really liked broccoli but it is fast to prepare, and I know it is anti cancer, so I've been eating it along with my daily sprouts and other raw veggie. Now when I don't have it I find my body asking for it. So I found that amazing that the body request what your mind doesn't even like so much. I am moving away from all the gourmet food preparation and just eating simply and beautifully. I still prepare things in the dehydrator and special things for guests, but I can go with a large veggie plate and some good dressing. If anyone is interested in an African Clothes Sale tomorrow in Gaithersburg, you should call me ASAP. Don't forget the special on Thai Yoga massage during June. Have a wonder day. Guest guest
It's the garbanzo beans - they are in hummus too. Maybe there are preservatives used now that weren't before, or pesticides, etc.?? Guest guest
Well, the only thing common to all three meals is the chickpeas, in the salad and the hummus. Maybe it's that. It's certainly possible to develop an allergy to something that was OK to eat before. It's happned to me. /gfj
Guest guest
I once had an allergic reaction (hives) from eating UNWASHED produce. I was reacting to the bugspray, not the lettuce! My housemate admitted to me that she had not washed the lettuce before she made the salad! You had what is called an "anaphylactic" reaction. The problem is: each time you react to a substance the reaction is more severe, progressing to RESPIRATORY ARREST, and possibly, DEATH (just like people who can die from eating one peanut or from one beesting.) CARRY BENADRYL WITH YOU. TAKE TWO TABLETS at the first sign of a reaction. It is now sold over the counter. IT MAKES YOU VERY SLEEPY. CALL 911. REPEATING: CALL 911. You can get a prescription for an Epi-Pen. It could save your life. You have to learn how to administer it to yourself. It's easy. I know all of this from first-hand experience!
