Guest guest
Greetings, Ayinde, born 12 weeks premature weighing 3lbs. 2 oz., is now a fat, juicy 8 lbs. But now we have another few hurdles - has infantile eczema AND reflux. Because I'm nursing, I have to eliminate all of the triggers from my diet (listed below). But I'm finding it difficult to come up with ideas for meals. I'm existing off of steel cut oatmeal, rice, spinach, turkey and salmon. I'd also be interested in eating foods that help heal eczema. I'm sure I should be eliminating the flesh, but where do you get protein when you can't eat beans. My son is presenting an opportunity for me to eat a healthier diet for his and my sake. Can you help? foods that aggravate eczema eggs, dairy products, peanuts, soy foods, wheat, strawberries, chocolate, white flour, fried foods and processed foods. foods that aggravate infant reflux Vegetables (due to high acid or belching) Broccoli Green Peppers Cabbage Brussel Sprouts Cauliflower Tomato Tomato Juice Corn Cucumber Onions Garlic Turnips Rhubarb Kale Fruits (due to high acid or lots of fiber and seeds) Apple (especially peels) Bananas (can cause constipation) Citrus fruits Figs Coconut Beverages Milk (lactose intolerance can provoke reflux in some people) Coffee (even decaffeinated) Tea Carbonated Beverages Caffeinated Beverages Starches Beans (gas producing) Oats (rolled oats OK) Tofu (avoid large quantities) Barley ( OK if perled barley is cooked 10-15 min) Miscellaneous Fatty or Fried Foods (fats take longer to digest) Meat with connective tissue/gristle (take longer to digest) Chili Powder Vinegars Chocolate Molasses Peppermint/Spearmint (Wintergreen is unrelated) Honey Caffeine Foods with "air" such as fluffy baked goods, Meringues. Guest guest
How old is she now? I found the reflux my son had, was simply because I was trying to get him to nurse too long at once. They go through stages and at a certain point they can nurse stronger so don't need to nurse as long to get full. I honestly don't believe all that long list is impacting her with reflux and eczema. I've read that eczema is related to a difficulty in digesting fats. I'd cut out animal and dairy and eat all vegan before I'd give up all those fruits and vegetables. You can get protein from soaked and sprouted lentils, garbanzos, and plenty of English peas, snow or snap peas. I like soy beans (Edemas or something, they call them now). Remember Carrots, zucchini, broccoli, bananas, all are good proteins. I would also look into taking a digestive enzyme which would help YOU digest and absorb better and thus help the baby. Guest guest
As an herbalist I get lots of people needing information for dealing with eczema for their infants. Here is what I suggest: Chorophyll is helpful. It is a natural blood purfier. You can purchase it as a liquid and add it to you or your kid's water or juice. It has a nice mint taste. For severe eczema LOTS of omega 3's and 6's (GLA) or Flax seed oil and Pau D'arco is a great choice. Other natural supplements from Nature Sunshine Products: -Oregan Grape (2 fl. oz.) (It is a blood purifer too) -Super Omega 3 EPA $19.95 -Pau d'Arco Extract -MSM -Homeopathic Eczema/Psoriasis All the products mentioned can be found on my website: http://www.motherknowsbest.net Just contact me with any questions. Guest guest
I agree. Also, eczema many times is an allergic reaction, which is why childhood eczema is often times " outgrown " . I believe that whatever foreign substance triggered the eczema...usually processed formula, once it is removed from the diet, the eczema usually goes away. In the case of breastfeeding, I would suggest that you get rid of the foods that are known to cause adverse reactions in the body, specifically meat. Your salmon might be full of dyes in order to create that lovely color that atracts shoppers. Many times these red and pink dyes (also used in Tropicana Grapefruit juice, many candies, and Yoplait Strawberry yogurt) come from an extract of beetles and their eggs. Also, many people develop indigestion from the skin of fish. Fowl can be full of toxins, steroids, antibiotics, and dyes as well and would be best avoided. Not to mention the fact that it was probably raise on genetically modified corn. I too think that a vegan diet would be more helpful than the diet that you are currently on. You want as many fruits and veggies as possible in order to strengthen and stabilize the immune systems of both you and your son, and this will hopefully cure the eczema. I hope this helps, and congratulations on your little one! The best of health to you and yours, S~~
