For those of you who missed the first " Raw Night " at Cafe Ambrosia

(and those who wish to return) here is another opportunity for you:

Thursday, July 26 Raw Night

As a result of the popularity of our 4-course raw menu on June 28, we

are pleased to offer again an all raw menu in conjunction with our

regular dinner menu on July 26. The 4-course (soup, salad, entrÈe and

dessert) raw menu is $30.00 per person. This menu is available by

reservation only and must be made no later than Tuesday, July 24. Please

indicate your preference for the raw menu when making reservations.

I have a question. I thought I heard someone say that raw is not really their

forte... vegan yes,

but raw/living, no. If that's the case, does the food really warrant the cost?

Or is it just the

novelty of dining out that makes it worth it? If it's really fantastic cuisine,

I might consider

treating myself once in awhile, but would like to know others' experience in

terms of quality,

service, ambiance...

Hi Jane,

I wouldn't say that raw is not their thing. They are learning and very

interested in supporting us. I believe I should support their efforts as

well. They make a beautiful salad. However, when Eric brought his famous

tahini dressing along, we easily substituted it for the house offering. Go

Eric!! You'll be selling that stuff soon, I hope!!

AND when Jeff brought along his famous raw ice cream (strawberry), it was

served up beautifully!! Go Jeff! You too are selling your talents, I hope!

I'm looking forward to owning a copy of your new cook book!

That's all the dinner we needed. Yes, a bit pricey, and we could probably

do the same routine elsewhere for less. Nice view of the fireworks, however!

Anybody else care to comment?

Peace--Linda

Whoever is our " group " sponsor, I think the owners should be informed about

the reactions some of us had at their last dinner, so they can adjust

accordingly. Maybe we could collectively suggest a menu for them--since they

are new at this. Have they been invited to our next potluck Saturday? (they

are probably working.) Gee. How are the EVER going to get to a potluck?

Interesting. They have the venue, not the knowledge. We have the knowledge,

and are urgently seeking the venue. hmmmmmm Karen, isn't there some kind

of compromise here?

:-)

I'd definitely come if Shari was our chef!!! And I would be willing to pay up

to $25... $30 is

just too high (maybe for 2!).

As Linda has already mentioned, some of us wish to support their

efforts to provide raw food to customers. If none of the raw foods

community supported them, then we likely would not see any raw foods

on their menus other than salads, etc. I would prefer eating there

than most other vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the area, because it

is organic vegan food. It is a great place to bring those people

still eating cooked food (yes, even flesh foods). At least I can

count on the quality of the food. I know there are no artificial

ingredients or preservatives, etc. So, until a raw restaurant opens

up (hello, Karen) this is certainly a place to take a mixed group of

people. As they get more in tune with raw foods, I'm sure their raw

meals will be wonderful. I'm sorry to hear of some peoples negative

reactions to the food. Other than some very minor discomfort, I

didn't have any problem and didn't hear of any problems from those I

spoke to.

I didn't have any negative physical reactions either. I did hear

that there was maple syrup in one of the dishes though. For those of

you who didn't fell so good afterward, that would be my guess as to

the culprit. We need to talk to Gary and/or the chefs/owners

directly to let them know exactly which ingredients are raw, which

aren't, which there's disagreement on, and the possible consequences

to certain raw fooders eating something cooked.

I did like the dishes, but it would be hard for me to make it a

regular outing due to the expense. I do agree with Jeff's comments.

From what I heard about the first " Raw Night " it seems the meal was a little

too heavy. I think if they can make it lighter(smaller amount of nuts ) and

reduce the price a little, more people would join. Can we ask them to make

some adjustment for us?

Thanks Linda and thanks to Jane for

mentioning my name. Guess I can

brag a little. I sent a macadamia

nut cheese recipe to a gal in NY and the next thing I know I won a

contest! Don’t know if there is a

prize or what, but she did call me today and interviewed me for her website – RawFoodNews.com

Jacques (18 y.o. son) completed the

Seattle to Portland bike ride in one day – RAW. He fueled himself with coconut water and meat put through

the VitaMix along with massive amounts of bananas and a few dates. He started at 4:45 a.m. Saturday and crossed

the finish line at 9:30 p.m. He

lost more than two hours with mechanical problems, a blown gear wire and TWO

flats! Poor kid. But at least he finished. I was really amazed at what these

people go through to do this bike ride.

We heard of a kid that had 4 flats.
