Guest guest
I just ate two sweetest nectarines from RAMA at the U-district farmers' market. Their brix level are 20 and 18.5, the highest among peaches and nectarines i have found. We don't have nectarines on the reference chart. I think they are close to peaches. 18 is considered excellent for peaches. They are 2.75/lb and $25 a box. The peaches I bought from RAMA were only around 12 brix. The best peaches i have found this year were from Frog Hollow and Fair Haven peaches from an organic stand at Lake City farmers' market. Their brix were around 14-15. The first batch of Frog Hollow peaches were mealy but later ones were good and the price had gone down to 2.59 in Whole Food Market. Guest guest
Helen, I don't know the brix level, but I bought a $40.00 box (yikes) on the other side of the market. They are incredibly sweet. After buying them, I tried RAMA's nectarines. They were quite good, but no as sweet (IMO) as Cliffside Orchards. Guest guest
Jeff, It turned out the brix level of the box of nectarines I got from RAMA ranges from 13 to 23, but i got a lot of good ones though. This morning at Norm's i was eating one that checked out be be 23 brix and everyone (Norm, Gary and Tim) had to have a bite. The flavor was rich. Guest guest
Helen, The nectarines I've been eating from that case, though not cosmetically pleasing, have been incredibly sweet. Some tasting like they've been soaked in sugar! Wish I had one of them there spectrometers. Guest guest
Jeff, Would you mind telling us again where you found those nectarines? Do you think there would be any left? Thanks in advance! Nora Jeff Rogers wrote: > Helen, > > The nectarines I've been eating from that case, though not cosmetically pleasing, have been incredibly sweet. Guest guest
It was at the U district farmer's market on the 50th St. side. The farm is Cliffside Orchards. Try them next Saturday. There have been a few with spots, but they've all been delicious! They were more expensive, but worth it. Jeff >Jeff, > Would you mind telling us again where you found those >nectarines? Guest guest
Hope we'll see those nectarines tomorrow at the farmers' market. I'll bring my refractormeter and check them out. I plan to be there around 10 am. See you there? Helen The nectarines I've been eating from that case, though not cosmetically pleasing, have been incredibly sweet. Guest guest
I'm thinking of getting some more, although I leave first thing Wed. morning for a trip, so would need to finish them by then. I had purchased a case of peaches at the Ballard market a couiple weeks ago from Pipitone Farm. Most were mealy. I talked to them last week. They explained there had been a problem with putting them in refrigeration, taking them out, then putting them back in again. They gave me a bag of replacement peaches. They are mealy! I do not recommend them. Their nectarines were gorgeous and big. They were better, although slightly mealy. I plan to be at today's market earlier, so may miss you (but may see some of our other members.)
