Guest guest
Cool! A few questions: -Is everything on the menu 100% orgainic? -Who is in control of the menu? -Who manufactures the olive oil? Is it unfiltered? Does it come in a dark glass bottle? How is it processed and at what temperatures? -How much braizing mix in a bag? (1 lb?) -What size are the apples (medium?) Are they all crisp? -How much goji berries in a bag? (18 oz?) -Is the produce guaranteed? -Where do we pick up the produce? -I signed up at the web page, but I'm not a member. How do I become a member? -Who does the $35 go to and what is it for? -Are there any other fees, either recurring or one-time? -What if the co-op doesn't generate 5 orders per week and is shut down? Do people get their $35 back? -Is this co-op a non-profit, or a for profit? -What is the markup by the co-op on the produce? -If there is a markup, where does the money go and what is it used for? Guest guest
Message: 8 Sat, 5 Oct 2002 19:35:19 -0700 (PDT) " Timothy D. Lottridge " <mitnors2 Re: Co-op Food buying club KICKOFF! Cool! A few questions: -Is everything on the menu 100% orgainic? Yes, except the dried fruit bars. (There's an organic fruit bar coming out very soon.) The olive is supposed to be organic, even tho it doesn't say so on the bottle. Lisa gave an impressive demo/talk about how the olive oil is processed--and it tastes yummy! -Who is in control of the menu? You are. :-) We all have a voice. This is your co-op….. For the meantime, until we get up and running smoothly, I'm volunteering to be the administrator, so email me (or this group) with your input. Members, of course, get top priority. -Who manufactures the olive oil? Is it unfiltered? Does it come in a dark glass bottle? How is it processed and at what temperatures? You can ask these questions of Lisa by emailing her at lisalp If you ask her to respond to the , we can all benefit from her answers. :-) -How much braizing mix in a bag? (1 lb?) Good question. I guess we'll have to order one to find out, eh? :-) -What size are the apples (medium?) Are they all crisp? Good question. I guess we'll have to order some to find out, eh? Have you eaten any from this vendor (Coyote Farms)? They are at the farmer's markets. I enjoy them very much.:-) -How much goji berries in a bag? (18 oz?) Asya? Can you answer this? I didn't see a qty. on my bag from David Wolfe. -Is the produce guaranteed? ?? Guaranteed? I'm not sure I understand. Do you get guaranteed produce anywhere? -Where do we pick up the produce? Pick up address and contact info is on the website, as well as on your order form. Did you print it off after placing your order? Do you know where the Cascade People's Center is? Where Victoria held classes---behind a lovely P-Patch garden and gazebo? -I signed up at the web page, but I'm not a member. How do I become a member? When you leave a $35 check made out to Cascade People's Center, on the first day of your pickup. But hold off on pickup until you hear from me. Not enough people have signed up yet. -Who does the $35 go to and what is it for? The $35 is for initial start-up costs of the co-op. There's a few things to be purchased like 1) a scale for volunteers to weigh and divide the produce, and 2) large tubs or containers for each family/person for the volunteers to distribute the food into Consider the $35 like a CSA share you pay at the beginning of a season to a CSA, to guarantee the CSA can operate throughout the season….only for us, it is a minimal one time fee. -Are there any other fees, either recurring or one-time? The $35 is a one time fee for start-up costs. There is a small markup- up to 10% initially on produce delivered in case quantities-- to cover overages that didn't sell (but will be donated onsite to " Food not Bombs " or the homeless ministry across the street) and to cover food spoilage. It will also cover the $1 per customer order fee to the webmaster at organic-coop.com for the automated website. -What if the co-op doesn't generate 5 orders per week and is shut down? Do people get their $35 back? This is a group conscience question and is not for me to decide. I would suggest we have another co-op organizational meeting soon to discuss such matters and hope you will attend. I think I have only seen you once or twice at a support group we started. I would love to see you at a potluck sometime. Where do you live? Do you attend the " northerly " potlucks? :-) -Is this co-op a non-profit, or a for profit? Most definitely NON-profit. -What is the markup by the co-op on the produce? It varies. TBD by the members. I think I've answered this question above. -If there is a markup, where does the money go and what is it used for? It is used to keep the co-op solvent. It can be adjusted at any time, if/when the coffers begin to build. Thanks for all your great questions, Tim. You are certainly interested in a co-op. I will post the minutes from our first organizational meeting below. If you have any more questions, please ask…. REMEMBER: This is a process--a new one for us. It was wisely suggested to me that our group needs to go through a good solid four weeks---four complete ordering, purchasing, delivery and pickup cycles-- in order to work out any " bugs " in our processes. We won't know what they are until we see them. We can meet weekly for the first 4 weeks, if people would like to--perhaps on the pickup day? So we could keep our pulse on what is working, what isn't working, what do we want to tweak or change. I am willing to facilitate this process. Let me know. -------------------------------- Eight people gathered for the first official meeting of the Raw Seattle Coop on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the Cascade' People's Center. We brainstormed together our purpose for forming the coop. By forming this coop we will be able to: purchase fresh picked produce buy at lower prices (share the case qty prices) buy ORGANIC support LOCAL organic farmers assure high quality produce create centralization do raw networking marketing raw products ( folks can sell their wares on pickup days) To sign up and learn more about the Raw Organic Coop go to: www.Organic-Co-op.com/rawseattle/ The website uses the Excel system. When ordering a customer can list three options: preferred, minimum, and maximum. Then if there is extra or less produce than expected the order is adjusted all by the computer! We discussed having a membership fee of $35.00 to cover initial expenses of running the coop. Non members will pay an additional ten percent cost on their orders. Questions to be answered yet: .1.When will the produce guy deliver? What day and time? On Wednesdays? On Sundays? Can he deliver by 9am on Sunday? 2. Does he want the boxes used for delivery returned to him? 3. Do we want to buy plastic tubs or have people bring their own bags for bringing home their produce? 4. Where can we get some good scales for weighing the produce? 5. How and when do we pay the farmers? The coop can be run through the Cascade Center and we can use the Cascade Center's non profit status and checking account. We will need volunteers to help organize the distribution. If there is extra produce that is not picked up it can be distributed to the food bank and the soup kitchen at the Cascade Center. peace and blessings-Linda

I think I've answered this <DIV></DIV> & gt;question above. <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;-If there is a markup, where does the money go and what is it <DIV></DIV> & gt;used for? <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;It is used to keep the co-op solvent. It can be adjusted at any <DIV></DIV> & gt;time, if/when the coffers begin to build. <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;Thanks for all your great questions, Tim. You are certainly <DIV></DIV> & gt;interested in a co-op. I will post the minutes from our first <DIV></DIV> & gt;organizational meeting below. If you have any more questions, <DIV></DIV> & gt;please ask…. <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;REMEMBER: This is a process--a new one for us. It was wisely <DIV></DIV> & gt;suggested to me that our group needs to go through a good <DIV></DIV> & gt;solid four weeks---four complete ordering, purchasing, delivery <DIV></DIV> & gt;and pickup cycles-- in order to work out any " bugs " in our <DIV></DIV> & gt;processes. We won't know what they are until we see them. <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;We can meet weekly for the first 4 weeks, if people would like <DIV></DIV> & gt;to--perhaps on the pickup day? So we could keep our pulse on <DIV></DIV> & gt;what is working, what isn't working, what do we want to tweak or <DIV></DIV> & gt;change. I am willing to facilitate this process. Let me know. <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;-------------------------------- <DIV></DIV> & gt;Eight people gathered for the first official meeting of the Raw <DIV></DIV> & gt;Seattle <DIV></DIV> & gt;Coop on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the Cascade' <DIV></DIV> & gt;People's Center. Non members will pay an additional ten <DIV></DIV> & gt;percent cost on <DIV></DIV> & gt;their orders. <DIV></DIV> & gt; Questions to be answered yet: <DIV></DIV> & gt; .1.When will the produce guy deliver? We will need volunteers to help organize the <DIV></DIV> & gt;distribution. If there is extra produce that is not picked <DIV></DIV> & gt;up it can be distributed to the food bank and the soup kitchen at <DIV></DIV> & gt;the Cascade Center. <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV> & gt;peace and blessings-Linda <DIV></DIV> & gt; <DIV></DIV></div><br clear=all><hr>Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: <a href='http://g.msn.com/1HM1ENUS/c152??PI=44364'>Click Here</a><br> <br> <tt>
Guest guest
FYI, the olive oil that was available for purchase at Linda's potluck via Lisa is 100% certified organic. regards, jd - Linda Reeves Sunday, October 06, 2002 12:12 PM RawSeattle [RawSeattle] Re: Co-op Food buying club KICKOFF! Message: 8 Sat, 5 Oct 2002 19:35:19 -0700 (PDT) "Timothy D. Lottridge" <mitnors2Re: Co-op Food buying club KICKOFF!Cool! A few questions:-Is everything on the menu 100% orgainic?Yes, except the dried fruit bars. (There's an organic fruit bar coming out very soon.) The olive is supposed to be organic, even tho it doesn't say so on the bottle. Lisa gave an impressive demo/talk about how the olive oil is processed--and it tastes yummy!-Who is in control of the menu? You are. :-) We all have a voice. This is your co-op….. For the meantime, until we get up and running smoothly, I'm volunteering to be the administrator, so email me (or this group) with your input. Members, of course, get top priority.-Who manufactures the olive oil? Is it unfiltered? Does it come in a dark glass bottle? How is it processed and at what temperatures? You can ask these questions of Lisa by emailing her at lisalp If you ask her to respond to the , we can all benefit from her answers. :-)-How much braizing mix in a bag? (1 lb?)Good question. I guess we'll have to order one to find out, eh? :-)-What size are the apples (medium?) Are they all crisp?Good question. I guess we'll have to order some to find out, eh? Have you eaten any from this vendor (Coyote Farms)? They are at the farmer's markets. I enjoy them very much.:-)-How much goji berries in a bag? (18 oz?)Asya? Can you answer this? I didn't see a qty. on my bag from David Wolfe.-Is the produce guaranteed??? Guaranteed? I'm not sure I understand. Do you get guaranteed produce anywhere? -Where do we pick up the produce?Pick up address and contact info is on the website, as well as on your order form. Did you print it off after placing your order? Do you know where the Cascade People's Center is? Where Victoria held classes---behind a lovely P-Patch garden and gazebo?-I signed up at the web page, but I'm not a member. How do I become a member? When you leave a $35 check made out to Cascade People's Center, on the first day of your pickup. But hold off on pickup until you hear from me. Not enough people have signed up yet.-Who does the $35 go to and what is it for?The $35 is for initial start-up costs of the co-op. There's a few things to be purchased like 1) a scale for volunteers to weigh and divide the produce, and 2) large tubs or containers for each family/person for the volunteers to distribute the food intoConsider the $35 like a CSA share you pay at the beginning of a season to a CSA, to guarantee the CSA can operate throughout the season….only for us, it is a minimal one time fee.-Are there any other fees, either recurring or one-time?The $35 is a one time fee for start-up costs. There is a small markup- up to 10% initially on produce delivered in case quantities-- to cover overages that didn't sell (but will be donated onsite to "Food not Bombs" or the homeless ministry across the street) and to cover food spoilage. It will also cover the $1 per customer order fee to the webmaster at organic-coop.com for the automated website.-What if the co-op doesn't generate 5 orders per week and is shut down? Do people get their $35 back? This is a group conscience question and is not for me to decide. I would suggest we have another co-op organizational meeting soon to discuss such matters and hope you will attend. I think I have only seen you once or twice at a support group we started. I would love to see you at a potluck sometime. Where do you live? Do you attend the "northerly" potlucks? :-)-Is this co-op a non-profit, or a for profit? Most definitely NON-profit.-What is the markup by the co-op on the produce? It varies. TBD by the members. I think I've answered this question above.-If there is a markup, where does the money go and what is it used for?It is used to keep the co-op solvent. It can be adjusted at any time, if/when the coffers begin to build. Thanks for all your great questions, Tim. You are certainly interested in a co-op.
