sharp drop of temperature tonight

I went to Discovery Park for a walk and jog and the weather was great. It has been a gorgeous day but beware the temperature may drop sharply tonight. I heard on kuow that it may drop to the thirties, near freezing point in some area. If you still have tomatoes in your garden you may want to do something, harvest the tomatoes or cover up the plants. I have harvested some chinese cucumbers. they were crispy and sweet.

Helen, do you know of any stores that sell chinese cucumbers? I looked

for the japanese ones at the market (I assume they are similar, they are

sweet, crisp, thin skinned and not very seedy), but they seem to be out

of season.

Nora,

I bought some in U-district farmers' market at Steve's booth (Tolt farm) and River farm. I think the season is over. I don't usually shop in China Town except for durians so I don't know if you can find them there.

Chinese cucumbers are long, slender and prickly. They usually kind of curl up. They are called prickly melon/squash in Taiwanese. You can wipe off the thorns with a towel.

I heard the temperature may drop below 30, or as low as 25 in some area so covering the plants probably would not help.

Yeah, it sounds like we're talking about the same thing. Have to

watch out for them next year, I just discovered them as the season was

ending. Thanks for the info!
