This newsletter goes out to everyone who has signed up for the FREE 7 part email class, The Raw Truth, written by Nomi Shannon, The Raw Gourmet. To be on my newsletter list, please sign up for the FREE course at www.rawgourmet.com. To , please go to the bottom of this newsletter and cut and paste the unsubscibe message. This is all done by autoresponder, please do not email me direct. This is actually a News Nibble. Just two items. 1. A review of a delightful raw recipe book. 2. A reminder that I am offering a great deal on the Green Star 1000-with additional attachments no one else offers at this price. I am always on the lookout for raw food info or recipe books that are not widely sold. It is a passion of mine to support all the many teachers and writers out there who are affecting so many people in such a positive way. Plus this is a way to get information to you that you may not have another way of obtaining. I have read about half a dozen books and rejected them for various reasons. One of them listed ingredients like apricot jam where I felt dates or other natural products would be far more appropriate. Another listed Boca burgers as suggested fare. Now it is OK to talk about transition, but people have a tendency to believe everything they read and I just can't recommend a book that mentions inferior products, as too many people would then really think that was OK and be led astray. Raw Food Guy by Howard Fisher is a delightful romp with a delightful man. Howard and I have not met in person, but over the years have had many email and phone conversations. He is from Ohio and has made an important impact on the local raw scene. Howard tells his story in a fast reading and entertaining way, complete with before and after pictures. He began an all raw program in December of 1999. Howard was very heavy. He weighed 315. In January of 2001 he weighed in at 175! A gourmet cook, Howard turned his talents over to the raw side, and the over 30 recipes in this lovely book are all superlative. Howard's book offers a great story and some terrific recipes, but not any basic information. It is not for the reader who doesn't understand what 2 cups of soaked pecans means, because there are not instructions for how and why to soak nuts. All that is in my book. This is a self-published 60 page book with a wealth of terrific fun, original recipes-it is not a high-gloss, illustrated cook or un-cook book. I am more than impressed with Howard's recipes. For one thing, they are truly original. This is something that I appreciate. Wait until you taste his Bluto Burgers! Made from spinach, mushrooms, onions and pecans with yummy seasonings, these dehydrated patties are divine! Howard offers up some real keepers, main courses you will want to make many times such as hummous made from squash and tahini, tomato sauce, dehydrated yummies, burgers, spreads, pates. And yes, some fun desserts too. Here is his recipe for "Halibut" Salad (from The Adventures of Raw Food Guy, by Howard Fisher) 1 cup of pine nuts 1 cup of macadamia nuts soaking water 1 cup chopped yellow onion 1/2 cup chopped purple onion 1 cup of chopped celery 1/2 cup fresh parsley 2 Tablespoons dulse flakes sea salt to taste Method: Soak the pine and macadamia nuts for 4-6 hours. Drain and place in bowl of food processor with the S blade. Process the nuts until they become pasty. Empty contents of bowl into another dish. Cut the vegetables into workable pieces for the processor and process until the pieces are small. Blend the processed veggies with the nut mixture by hand and chill for an hour. Serve with leaf wraps or chips. Note from Nomi: You can use a Juicer with a blank or a K-Tec or Vita Mix to prepare this recipe also. Raw Food Guy is $15.00. You can buy it from me for the next few weeks. Call to order at 888-316-4611. Shipping is $3.85. The Green Star 1000 This is the juicer that I recommend as it is a big savings over the GS 3000 which has a lot of attachments you will never use. However, normally the GS 1000 has the fine filter only. The one I sell has both the fine filter and the coarse filter. This will allow you more choice in type of juice that you make. The coarse filter normally costs about an extra $30.00. Why do I only offer the Green Star? After all there are tons of other juicers on the market. I test all the products personally. I tested the Samson, which also has several other names-- Oscar, Omega 8001, and even though it sells for one hundred dollars less-the reason I don't, can't recommend it is because when I juiced the exact same amount of produce in the Samson and in the GS-the yield was twice as much in the GS. I got 2 cups of juice with the GS as opposed to 1 cup with the Samson with the identical amount of produce. I could not believe my eyes. It won't take very long before the initial savings are eaten up, literally, by all the additional produce you will have to buy. I also still sell the trusty Champion juicer. Still a great product at only 199. This is good for people who are just plain never going to spend $400 on a juicer. True, the quality of the juice isn't as high, it won't last as long (the juice not the machine, the machine is also a workhorse). But you can do everything with a Champion that you can with a GS-juice, ice creams, homogenize. Until the Green Life/Green Star came along the only good juicers were the Champion and the very very expensive Norwalk Press. Now, you have a high quality juice as good as or close to it as the Norwalk without spending 2500 dollars-that is the Green Star. But, honestly, the Champion, while not as good as the GS is still a very terrific machine. I offer a service. When you are confronted with all the choices there are, short of testing them all, how do you make your decision? That is what I do for you. Everything I sell, I sell because I believe in the product. I can personally recommend it as the best on the market. That is why I switched from selling the Vita Mix to the K-Tec, because the K-Tec is a superior machine. Same with the Green Star 1000, it is the best machine on the market at this time. I have put together the perfect combination of items, adding in the additional filter to make it just right for all raw fooders and others who make juice. So, don't forget, if you are comparison shopping, I have seen the GS 1000 for around 370. But that does not include the coarse filter, mine does. For $375, I am offering the Green Star 1000 for this terrific price up until the week before Christmas. (subject to change however, if my dealer changes their price). To order the GS 1000, please call us at 888-316-4611. Cisca takes the calls in person Mon-Fri from 12-5 EST. If you get a Voice Mail, she will get right back to you, it could be that her baby daughter Ella needs her attention. The special price for the mandoline plus and the saladacco for $65.00 ENDS November 1, so please get your order in before that. I do have some big news coming up. Surprising news, actually. But I will hold off on that for about one week. I hope to begin my second book very soon. If you would like to email me things you would like to see in this next book, that would be great. What did you like that you want more of that is in The Raw Gourmet? What did you want that you couldn't find in The Raw Gourmet? Do you have a type of recipe you want to see more of? Do you have a favorite recipe that you would like to send me to test and perhaps include in the new book, mentioning you of course. Do you want to learn more about cleansing, coconuts, de-toxing, raw babies, soups, dehydrating, specific conditions, you name it-now is a good time to send me your wants, your needs, your ideas-as this is still the very early planning stage. I would especially enjoy seeing your original recipes. While I appreciate the dissemination of relevant information to this list, I

must again take the stance that regularly forwarding free newsletters, quotes

of the day, etc to this list is objectionable. If someone copies and pastes a

piece of information they found somewhere and posts observations or questions

along with the information then I do not object. Or if someone is excited

about a new source of topically relevant information then they should just post

a link to the website, such as:

-----

Hey everyone, I just came across Naomi Shannon's website. She has a great free

monthly newsletter that you can sign up for at http://www.rawgourmet.com.

Check it out if you haven't already.

-----

I am already signed up for Naomi's newsletter and have received it along with 2

unformatted copies (hence, unpleasantly readable) via the RawSeattle list. My

opinion is that it is best to get the information from the source. That way

you know you will receive it regularly (don't have to rely on someone else

forwarding you the info) and in the proper format, you won't get duplicates,

you can set reliable email filters to file the emails, and you can

if you don't want to receive it anymore.

Yo, webmaster, if you are reading this, how about adding a section under Web

Links on the RawSeattle web site for Newsletters and other regularly sent

emails. Naomi's can be the first link. By the way, how is the web site

overhaul coming?

Thanks,

Tim
