Here we go again. Looks like we replaced the Buddhists with the Christians. It also seems like I'm the only one who objects to the raw group being filled with random irrelevant philosophical musings. I quit. Good bye and good luck. Niz - RawSeattle Friday, November 08, 2002 2:26 AM RawSeattle [RawSeattle] Digest Number 444

Niz,

No, you're not the only one who objects to this. I've already emailed

Jack privately last night. Except for a posting at 2 minutes after

midnight, there have been no postings today.

I appreciate peoples enthusiasm regarding vegan, vegetarian and

animal rights issues, but not when they are constant and off topic

(not raw). I am sensitive to off topic posts as I do not want to lose

our members.

Please do not leave, as, hopefully, these posts will not continue.

Jack and others are welcome as long as they honor the purpose of this

list and respect " In Baskets " of our members.

For those wishing to receive animal rights emails, etc. there are

plenty of other email lists already in existence that we may freely

join.

Thank,

Jeff

Jeff and Niz,

I actually appreciate reading these exchanges for the brief period between the time they appear and when someone chases them off the list. So I wish Niz would be more gracious with his comments - I agree that they are off-topic but how else would we find out that there is another place where they are broadcast if not for incidents like this. (What are those places by the way?)

Thank you.

Thank you, Jeff. I just have to say that I agree with you and Niz. While I

also appreciate Jack's enthusiasm about animal issues, I object to this list

being used as a forum for religious propaganda. In addition, it occurs to me

that possibly Jack doesn't realize that raw foodists are not of a common mind

when it comes to animal issues (unfortunately), even though most of us are

vegan. So from that standpoint alone this list is not an appropriate place

for his messages. That being said, however, I personally would not object if

it weren't for the religious overtones. Thanks again for bringing your

considerable diplomacy skills to bear, once again.

Nora

P.S. Niz, thank you too, for speaking your mind about this.

One list that some of you may be interested in is the EarthSave

Seattle list (many raw fooders are already on the list). Besides

discussions of local EarthSave events, there are media articles and

links to articles posted to the list regarding vegan, vegetarian,

GMO's, Mad Cow and other related issues, including some animal rights

issues. While the list was originally intended for use by EarthSave

members for networking, it has evolved since then. Anyone may join.

There is now a separate list for official notification of EarthSave

Seattle events.

To Join " ESS " :

To to this list, mail a message to

majordomo with no subject and the message body containing:

esavers

To find appropriate email lists of interest already existing with

, search by key word at this address:

/

While not as extensive as , Seattle Community Network has a list

of local email lists by category (I didn't see any animal rights

lists).

http://www.scn.org/maillists/topics.html

I personally search various news services for vegan/vegetarian/raw

food, etc. articles for posting to my (not-for-profit) website

(http://www.soystache.com), as well as to the ESS list. If you wish

to see some of these articles, you may visit my website periodically,

or sign up for the ESS list. (the raw food article links I will email

to the Raw Seattle list)

Dear Jeff The other reason why I think I want to quit is that there is very little about raw food ever written here. Why is that? I could write a lot, but it seem more fashionable to philosophize. Here's examples of what I would consider useful information or discussion: I just bought Asian pears at Wholefoods the size of grapefruits that are delicious at $1.99 per lb. I just bought a case of organic Sapotes at Central Market. I asked PCC to carry Govinda's raw crackers like they do at Rainbow grocery and Wholefoods, but they said their shelves are already too full (of cooked stuff). Rainbow grocery has a new type of raw dehydrated snack rolled in nori. Did you know that if you drain the juice from Nature's First Law Moroccan Olives you can use it instead of Nama Shoyu. Then soak the olives for a week in filtered water and they become less salty, more palatable and you get more juice by the time the jar is finished. Use it in salad dressings etc. Last month bought 25 lbs of 'raw' pistachios from a farmer and shared it with my friends. I got the contact from Victoria Boutenko's resource list. As I was reordering I asked if they were dried in any way. She said yes... at just below 200 degrees! Be careful, always ask. When I was at the Essene Gathering in Breittenbush people were saying that all tahini is not raw and the only truly raw Almond butter is from Rejuvenative foods or Natures first Law. Did you know that Vitamineral Greens from Healthforce Nutritionals is the same as Natures first food, except it has carob added. It also happens to be a lot cheaper. I here somebody got a good supplier of Mexican coconut oil at the raw festival in Portland. I could go on, but should I ? Thank you Nick for the support. However, it is not my voice that I

want to hear, but that of the community. It seems that in the absence

of raw food discussion, the void is filled unrelated topics. The

result is that many raw fooders (I personally know several) that do

not get involved because of a cultish feel, and a raw food co-op that

cannot get started due to lack of interest. Yet there is already a

discussion group and a coop of sorts, through people sharing and

cooperating with intimate friends; it's just not happening here or on

a larger scale. Lets change that.

I have to side with Niz on this. I don't think Niz's comments were

intentionally mean or ungracious. I think they came from frustration!

I appreciate and respect peoples views on everything, I have my

opinion they have theirs. I to many lists, I to

this one for RAW food information. For every off topic point/message

posted here there is a list somewhere, where that info is

appropriate. But it is not here. I care about animals, and how they

are treated, I care about people and how they are treated too, but in

my view that has nothing to do with raw food. Green peace, earth

save, paws, there are tons of lists out there if you want info on

those subjects, search a little! If I want philosophical musings, or

religious rhetoric I can find that. But I don't want to find that

here. Niz your last post (that I have read, anyway) about the fruit

you bought, etc. was wonderful!! That is the info I seek!! I am new

to this raw food thing, consequently I don't say much because I don't

have a lot of knowledge to share yet (that is why I am here).

Just my .02

Good afternoon,

I know that the (raw) Govinda bars are available down here in the south suburbs at Minkler's Green Earth in Renton and Nature's Market in Kent at 256th and Benson. They have them on the shelf.

Howdy Folks

Heres a tip to keep the content concerned people of this discussion group

less pissed off. Don't just press the reply button when engaging in

personal discussion with another member, " paste " their addy in your " to "

row, and go from there. Of course, one does this when valuable info to the

group is no longer written. Even more skinny inboxes, yeah!

hope i didn't offend
