Guest guest
Hi all. I was curious what if anything is happening with the Raw Seattle Coop? Also I missed Linda's last fab potluck and wondered about the report from the Portland Raw Festival. Are the tapes and videos now ready? Was there other news that I missed? This is my very busy time of the year and I am trying to catch up! Namaste, Cindy
Guest guest
Niz, Here are some of my comments on your post: I just bought Asian pears at Wholefoods the size of grapefruits that are delicious at $1.99 per lb. **Wow! Thanks for sharing that. Do you remember which variety of Asian Pears? I just bought a case of organic Sapotes at Central Market. **OMG!! Let's share a case (or more) among ourselves. I LOVE Sapote!!! Thanks for the info. I asked PCC to carry Govinda's raw crackers like they do at Rainbow grocery and Wholefoods, but they said their shelves are already too full (of cooked stuff). ** :-( Rainbow grocery has a new type of raw dehydrated snack rolled in nori. ** Is it Gopal's Energy Stix (what is available on our www.organic-coop.com/rawseattle website)? How do the prices compare? Did you know that if you drain the juice from Nature's First Law Moroccan Olives you can use it instead of Nama Shoyu. Then soak the olives for a week in filtered water and they become less salty, more palatable and you get more juice by the time the jar is finished. Use it in salad dressings etc. ** Yes. I love this alternative to Nama Shoyu. When I was at the Essene Gathering in Breittenbush people were saying that all tahini is not raw and the only truly raw Almond butter is from Rejuvenative foods or Natures first Law. ** I would love to see some discussion about this. Has anybody else heard this? Where can we buy Rejuvenative foods in Seattle? I here somebody got a good supplier of Mexican coconut oil at the raw festival in Portland. ** Yes. Check with Socorro. I could go on, but should I ? ** ABSOLUTELY!!! What took you so long? ;-) We reap what we sow. When you sow a few seeds like this, who knows what you will reap. Right? Thanks for sharing Niz....and keep it up! I want to hear all about the deals you find. Also, I would like to go in a case of Sapote with somebody. How do the prices compare? At Rainbow they are $1.99 each pack (2 sticks). How much at the co-op? >Where can we buy Rejuvenative foods in Seattle? At whole foods the Rejuvenative foods almond butter is $17.00, in the refridgerated section as Jeff said. The cheapest truly raw almond butter is from Natures First law at $13.00 plus shipping, 10% off for a case of 12. Note: not all rejuvenative foods products are raw. Like tahini and cashew butter are not raw. If you look at the labels closely they are honest about this. They make good raw saurkraut-$7.99 at PCC, 7.69 at Wholefoods and $6.99 at Madison Market. Its easy and cheaper to make your own saurkraut. Niz
Guest guest
Okay. It's time for me to interject. I think there's much more to rawfoods than who bought what where and raw events. However, I know that some people want just the facts. We could keep making list for every new thing that comes up, or we could leave rawseattle open and create a new list just for bartering, recipes, and shopping ... stuff that is strictly practical and food related. A no frills sort of place. That seems like an easier solution. Because, let's face it; we all have different views of what rawseattle should be. If this sounds reasonable, perhaps Niz, you could set it up and post some guidelines. It sounds like a lot of people share your wishes/vision. As the community grows it would be easy to overwhelm peoples inboxes. Yet everyone should be able to express their ideas and share their knowledge and beliefs. I suggest we form four rawseattle groups; one for raw philosophy- such as bhuddism, christianity, veganism etc. one for raw lifestyle- such as health questions, communal living, etc. one for raw community- announcing events and potlucks, co-op meetings etc. like we used to get from the website one for raw food; deals and ideas, recipes, brinks scores, etc. Each person could then anyone could sign up for one or all of the groups and no-one would be excluded. Does it sound too complicated? I think it will grow our community and serve us all. Niz
Guest guest
While many lists may be a way of keeping some posts out of the inboxes of those who do not want specific types of posts, I, personally, feel it's a bit complicated when several different lists will all deal with raw issues. I'd rather not have to sign up several different times, when I can just sign up once. I can always skip or delete email I don't want. This isn't as easy on the digest form, though. I also wonder if newcomers who wish to join the list to learn about raw foods are going to want to sign up for several lists. Just a reminder, we already have SeattleDailyWisdom/ for daily (give or take) inspiration and wisdom (not necessarily raw). Guest guest
I rather like the idea. I don't think having 3 or 4 lists is too complicated. This way people know exactly what they are signing up for. I end up deleting 90+ % of the messages I get. Signing up for specific groups can't be any more time consuming or confusing than that! I would just add that one of those lists, say raw lifestyle, should be very expansive/inclusive. Otherwise, the same problem will occur... differences about what should or shouldn't be included. No-one knows how to add anything to it and one person has to control it. 2. The Seattle daily wisdom egroup you created when I complained that the Raw food group was being filled with philosophy. I suggest we change this to raw philosophy. 3. This rawseattle egroup which has everything but raw food discussion, and a lot of complaints from people about email size, off topic items, and, I believe a bunch of people who either do not suscribe, or are reluctant to comment. My suggestion would add 1 group and would consolidate the community's discussion to specific and convenient categories. I could for example to the events email list, and then visit the other lists at my convenience, say once every week or two. Niz
Guest guest
Another thought... Since many of us are on the RawImmortal list, which has a lot of discussions on raw foods, do's and don'ts, theory, etc., it may be better to refer people to that list as it is not region-specific and those discussions do not require a Seattle list. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on that list. Many have been following raw food diets for many years and can offer a lot of wisdom. Would there be enough reason to have a separate Seattle list for things covered on that or other lists? How about some feedback from some others on the list (even newbies). If we did have several different lists, people would have the option of signing up for all, but only receiving emails from certain ones, opting instead to visit the websites periodically to read emails online.
