Guest guest
here's a message from the brix list http://www.froghollow.com/ norm )~ ...... raw food, simply wonderful ..... The Frog Hollow peaches mentioned are exceptional this year. Grown in the Brentwood area of the Sacramento Delta, these fruits are available by mail order, from Bay area farmer's markets and in selected stores California, Washington and British Columbia. They are expensive but how much would you pay for the peach of your dreams? One is blessed to experience one 18 Brix or higher peach in a lifetime. There will likely be several in a single box of Frog Hollow peaches. Sometimes most of an entire box reaches those heights. Martha Stewart recently visited the Frog Hollow orchard with her television show. Frog Hollow's use of a refractometer and Brix is mentioned on her site http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content & id=tvs7305 There is also a nice eight page feature on Frog Hollow in the July Cooking Light magazine. " Farmer Al " Courchesne's use of refractometers and Brix to assess the success of his trees is prominent in the article.. Guest guest
Hi Nora- I saw them stacked up at Whole Foods a few days ago, but did not buy any yet, so have no comment on how the first of the season ones are yet. Guest guest
The first Frog Hollow nectarine I checked at home has brix 14.5. 14 is good but I ate a lot of samples at WF and they were yummier, tasted like more than 14. My first Frog Hollow peach brixed 16.5 (Reams chart: 16-good, 20-excellent; another chart: 12-ave, 18-excel) which is the best I have ever had, quite delightful. You may get a 10# box with 10% discount. Guest guest
My first peach brixed 16.5 which WAS the best I'd ever had. My second peach brixed 19, a little bit fuzzy. Incredible! My first sample of the second peach was 19.5. I couldn't believe it, thinking the sample I took was too close to the skin where some moisture may have been lost and may be inaccurate. I took another sample still close to the tip and brixed 19. This is a truely tree-riped peach. The flesh has separated from the pit. Yum, yum, yum!
