Guest guest
Hi there, I want to introduce myself! I started going 100% raw a few weeks ago, but got sidelined by the stress of the bar exam last week. Back on the wagon tomorrow! I'm keeping a journal of my efforts at www.geocities.com/rawjournal. It's no Shazzie, mind you, but it will keep me accountable if I think people might be reading the darn thing. Now that I have law school and that horrid bar exam behind me and I actually have some free time, I want to attend a fun raw event and meet all you fine folks! I'm so disappointed that I missed Victoria Boutenko the other day, but I was cramming my brain full and the event slipped my mind. I hear Seattle is a great place to be raw and I feel awful that I haven't had the time in the past few years to connect with any of you. I'm wasting helpful resources! =) I've been mostly vegan since 1999. I've been raw on and off for about that long, but only recently I've started trying to follow Dr. Doug Graham's advice. So I want to come meet you all and pick your brains. I have a million questions, especially for any of you who are professional folks and how you deal with social situations. That's what I'm most worried about as I start a new job in two weeks. Are there any events coming up that you'd recommend for a new person? I wasn't sure how you have support groups/potlucks set up, so I didn't want to intrude on anything in case you had some events reserved for the more " advanced " folks! Thanks for the input! Take care, Sarah
Guest guest
Sarah, Welcome to Raw Seattle! Locally, keep an eye on our website, http://www.rawseattle.org for any upcoming events. Hosts of potlucks post their potlucks on the website. Feel free to stop by. A " must " for people new and old to raw foods is the International Raw and Living Foods Festival in Oregon. It's not quite as convenient as a Seattle potluck, but there are lots of great speakers, lots of great food booths, and lots of terrific people at various stages of raw food diets. If you can swing it, even for a day, I'd recommend it. As you are starting a new job, it may not be too easy, but where there's a will... The event is in Lebanon Oregon, August 21 - 26. The main part of the event is on the weekend, so people working week days can still make it. Here is some information, but it has not been updated. http://www.rawfoods.com/festival/ Jeff >Are there any >events coming up that you'd recommend for a new person? Guest guest
Congratulations on your effort to be raw and your method of accountability is pretty clever. I will be hosting a potluck at my apartment in Bellevue August 16. Social situations are hard especially when someone treats the group to pizza or some other fast food and they feel bad if you're not included. Sometimes (like when they are celebrating someone's birthday with cake) I just go over and try to socialize but don't eat anything. (Sometimes in the past I have taken my break to get away from it!) If people ask you why you're not eating, use the time to point out the positive aspects of right living--how much better you feel, how you won't need to see the doctor, etc., etc. A little shared knowledge of the deleterious effects of sugar, fats, etc. can be used with prudence--there's no need to heap guilt on someone for what they are doing! There will be people that once they know you are knowledgeable about health will come to you and ask you for advice. Guest guest
Hey Sarah! Glad to see you updated your journal again. I'm on the vegsource raw board, so I was looking for the updates (every day). I'm also new at this, so it helps to read what others are going through. I'll look for more updates. ~M'isa I want to introduce myself! I started going 100% raw a few weeks ago, but got sidelined by the stress of the bar exam last week. Back on the wagon tomorrow!
