I saw some emails a while back regarding those of you who feed your animals

raw foods and thought I'd share this company info with you.

www.pepperdogz.com

You may have heard of them, although they said it's a relatively new

company. They had their booth set up at Bark in the Park. No cat food as

of yet. The food is Hormone, antibiotic, filler, GMO, added sugar, added

flavor free.

I saw this too and I was wondering what folks thought about this as the products include raw meat as well as veggies.

I have not seen this particular dog food, but we feed Ziggy Raw Advantage. It is made on Camano Island and I often meet the woman making it at the Everett co-op where she is buying organic vegetables to add to the organic raw meat they use. http://www.rawadvantagepetfood.com/

Personally I do not have a problem with feeding my dog raw meat. Some folks do, but I believe they are meant to be carnivores although Ziggy does enjoy stealing my tomatoes off the vine and getting into the raspberry bushes!

From Sue Aberle (she's having challenges with ):

In regards to the raw dog food with meat: When we to the raw

vegan diet as the true diet for humans because of our physiology, we also

have to accept that dogs and cats are true carnivores. When we listen to

Loren Lochman's reasoning, that humans are not built to catch, kill, and

devour meat, we also must accept that dogs and cats ARE built to catch,

kill, and devour meat, and do so in the wild (and in domestic animals as

well, how many of us have needed to clean up the remains of small furry

mammals and birds from our carpet??).

I am feeding our kitties raw food, I buy Amore, Nature's Variety, and

Steve's freeze-dried. They all involve raw meat, as well as raw eggs,

veggies, and other good ingredients. I have to trust that these products

are made from high-quality meat from animals that were well-treated and

humanely slaughtered. I know that there is one brand of vegetable-based raw

dog food available at All The Best, but I am unaware of any vegetable-based

raw cat food.

As omnivores, dogs have a more diverse range of foods they can thrive on

than humans or cats, for example. I do know people who feed their dogs

exclusively plant foods, so I'm not going to say it can't be done. From

what I've seen, however, dogs seem to do best on a diet that includes both

plant and animal foods. I've fed my dog a diet of raw bones, meat, offal,

eggs and veggies for 6-7 years and he hasn't been to the vet once.

The commercially prepared raw foods are good but expensive. They contain a

lot of costly ingredients (supplements) that aren't necessary, imo. These

foods are great for working people who just want to open a package and who

can afford the price tag. They do tend to reinforce the notion that raw

feeding is mysterious, time-consuming and complicated, however. It's

easier to raw feed than most people think. I hold classes occasionally in

my home to demonstrate and answer questions. Once people see how it's

done, they realize it doesn't have to be left to the " scientists " (ha) in

the pet food industry. I have a 7-page handout on dog nutrition that I can

send to anyone who's interested, just email me at nmlenz.
