Guest guest
I'd love to know of a source for raw durian in Portland, Nora. I've only seen the frozen ones from Thailand. (I currently have one in my freezer, as a matter of fact.) Besides the frozen Thai durians, I've only eaten fresh durian in Bali so I can't say whether Cambodian durians are better. The ones in Bali are pretty terrific. We sat as a group eating durian after durian until we couldn't eat any more. I've seen David Wolfe rather in a " durian coma " afterwards. Guest guest
Hi Annette, I've never bought one there, I've only heard about others getting them there. Robert brought me one from San Francisco once so I have more direct experience there. I don't know where he bought it though, just somewhere in Chinatown. I don't recall who told me they had bought raw durian in Portland. It was somebody in our little community here. I'll ask Robert if he's ever seen it. Have you looked for it during the season (Aug-Oct)? Nora Annette wrote: > I'd love to know of a source for raw durian in Portland, Nora. I've > only seen the frozen ones from Thailand. Guest guest
Linda and I got a fresh unfrozen durian in Portland about 2 1/2 years ago when we were there for the festival. It was in an Asian Market somewhere in SE Powell St. I don't remember who took us there and I don't have the exact address. Maybe someone from the Portland rawfoods community would know where it is. Guest guest
The name of the store is An Dong. They're in the Portland phone book. Guest guest
Oh, goody. Thanks Eric. I've been to An Dong a million times and just assumed that their durians had thawed as they often are in some of the other Asian markets. I'll have to ask next time rather than assuming ... Guest guest
Well, when I've gone there, they've had frozen ones as well. I've been there when the only durian they had was frozen ones. They probably only had/have the never-frozen ones during a certain part of the year. But yeah, asking them should tell you. RawSeattle , " Annette " <cloudriver> wrote: > Oh, goody. Thanks Eric.
