I forgot to keep the website address. Sorry. I'll post all the info on the listserv when I get the oranges (provided they are good!). Guest guest
I second that John...especially at the West Seattle PCC. They told me that Valencia's are going out (darn) and Navals are coming in (not as juicy). That white stuff on the oranges is not BAD (like I thought). He was right! The produce guy explained that the oranges sweat in their crates and .....I don't know what the white stuff is. It looks like rot to me...but not to me......anymore. :-)
Guest guest
I talked to the guy who orders all the produce for PCC yesterday, to ask whether he could get South Tex citrus for me at a cheaper price than I can get from them directly, as Helen mentioned. He said he could only get Hamlins from them but didn't know the price. He did say he can sell cases of the Valencias they have now for $28-29 (a case is 35-40 pounds). The only store that won't sell them at this price is Issaquah, who sticks by the book policy (the one they're all supposed to go by) and charges 10% under regular retail. In the meantime I went to the Iss store and sampled the Valencias. The one I tried was juicy and flavorful, but very acidic. Maybe I'm spoiled because earlier in the year I was getting some fabulously sweet organic Valencias from Trader Joes. Still waiting for my oranges from Texas ...
