Guest guest
Hi all ~ Lately I've been reading a lot on the eboards about goitrogens (foods which can apparently depress the thyroid): broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, mustard, kale, turnips. Although I've been checked and checked by the allopathic doctors with no results, I have the feeling that my thyroid is a bit underactive. Why shouldn't it be? I've been on one diet after another my entire life! Anyway, have you heard of this? Do you know more? Each day I've been having a green juice of a bunch of kale with celery, parsley, burdock, lemon, and apple. Should I be substituting some other green (Romaine?) for the kale to help me lose weight? I seem to have been pretty stuck for the past year. The result is that I get discouraged and eat cooked and you know the rest of the story. Any ideas? Guest guest
My daughter has Hashimoto's thyroditis (goiter) and was told not to eat any cruciferous foods. She was also told to ONLY consume Celtic sea salt, if she eats salt. They seem to have a link to heavy metal poisoning and Hashimotos. Guest guest
Annette, Spinach is a wonderful dark leafy green that is not in the kale family, also look for other greens chard and collards that are wonderful. Also drink orange juice as I can help with cravings. Spinach is a wonderful green with apple though, and you can get almost anyone to drink it if you have enough apple in it because it doesn't have that rough aftertaste like kale does.
