With two little kids, and my part-time job, and recovering from an illness, I can almost never get to potlucks (I have been to exactly two). It breaks my heart, because God knows I would love to chat with like- minded people. And I love all the beautiful food, it is so encouraging! But then there's the challenge of running after the kids to make sure they don't go weird on anybody at the potluck, so not getting to visit . . . Sorry to whine! I just wish it were easier to have community with raw fooders. I don't think very many of us are parents of little ones on this list. Guest guest
I understand completely. While our kids are grown and gone (at least for now), I definitely remember the days when our adult social life was very limited because of having young children. I work 4 days per week with families with young children, and I see how kids can be. When we no longer have small children in the home, our homes are not set up for kids, nor are they child-proof, ours certainly isn't. (We've had this discussion previously, some potluck hosts do request that children not attend, and it's normally because the home is not child-proof, and the hosts feel a responsibility to make sure the children are safe, which is totally understandable.) Perhaps in the summer when the weather is nice we can make the potlucks picnics in the park, where children can run and play and the parents feel more comfortable bringing them. St. Edwards Park near our home has a very nice, quite new playground, and nice hiking trails, and would be a good option. I could check out what their reservation system is for picnic shelters (in case of inclement weather). Lincoln Park, near Linda's, also is very nice. As you can likely tell, we didn't make it to the potluck this evening. We left home at 5:45 this a.m. & didn't get away from the Convention Center until 6 p.m. (We tried to leave at 5 p.m., but it was absolutely pouring outside, and we'd parked several blocks away, so we had to wait for someone who was heading that direction to give us a ride.) When we got home, we were very tired. It was very interesting to see the set-up process for this event. I am amazed at the size of boulders, trees, and the massive mounds of soil and sawdust that are brought in. It was also fun to watch as different groups (while we were awaiting the arrival of our structures via truck) were putting together their displays, to see the different ideas and themes as they emerged. We still have a lot of work to do, mostly the planting, and that will mostly be done on Monday, so that will be another all-day session. Then the show opens on Wednesday. (By the way, advance tickets are cheaper than tickets at the door!) See you - Sue > This is always my problem too. Guest guest
We are about 30 minutes South of Bellingham and our House is child proof. Would anyone be interested in a Raw Potluck here?
