Atkins ads on email list

OK... This is getting rediculous! While a variety of ads pop up on

the bottom of emails coming through as part of the

service, recently we have been receiving a constant supply of atkins

ads. These are rather rediculous on a vegan raw food list. I've

emailed regarding the inappropriate ads. Of course, we can just

continue ignoring such ads for an unhealthy jubject, but it is an

opportunity to educate and may resulting in removing the ads

from our emails.

Please take a moment (if willing) and go to this web address:

http://help./help/us/groups/settings click on " ad feedback "

at the very bottom, right side, answer the questions and add your

comments regarding the atkins ad on our raw vegan email list. Please

mention our list name/URL: RawSeattle/

(I don't recall if I referenced the list, other than after my

signature.

Thanks,

Jeff

PS: This was my note to them:

Our is about raw vegan (plant-based) foods. The atkins ad

is not just irrelevant, but distasteful. The ad seems to be appearing

constantly on our emails. Most of us on our list recognize the atkins

" diet " as very unhealthy. As we do not consume animal products, the

atkins ad is very inappropriate. If possible please prevent the ads

from appearing on our emails.

PS: by far, most of our members are slender and have no need for any

diet advice. A raw vegan diet is slimming for the overweight and

boosts health, vitality and energy.

Just to present another angle, you have to remember that is

providing this web space to us for free and it is sponsored by the

advertisers. That is just part of life, we get it from radio and TV

also. Personally, I ignore most ads on the Internet; I mute the TV

usually during the commercials, and ignore most of the ads on the

radio. If the ads are replusive to you, it might be good to

complain, but if no advertisers can be found, the costs will be

passed on to us.

Most of the ads I hear/see on TV and radio are not very appropriate

either. TV has a lot of commercials pushing drugs and a fast food

materialistic lifestyle, or other TV programs to watch. But it's

either that or getting the bill for what we hear/see.

Actually, to me, those points are already givens. As I mentioned, the

ads are normally ratated, but recently they seem to be consistantly

atkins ads. I am sure that advertisers would appreciate their

advertising dollars going to better use. The advertisers, as well as

, will not know without feedback. Like I was saying it is an

opportunity for us. may learn something about one of their

groups (us) and about the effectiveness of their ads. We do not need

to be repulsed by ads to share our comments. I, personally, don't pay

much attention to ads, but am certainly willing to share some

comments with them, especially if it may result in us not getting

those ads. As a moderator, I would prefer more appropriate ads on our

list, so as to not offend any of our members. I realize they may just

pool all their available ads, which then pop up on all their email

groupd' emails. They do use computors, so should be able to better

assign their ads.

I say NO to Cencorship! What is going on ? What a waste of precious time!

Whats NEXT? seriosly??? This kind of thinking always freaks me out!

If it was our private board then we wouldnt have such a problem.

But its not... and i find it a HUGE embaracment to be so intolarant when

we are using this for free!

what kind of snobs are we becoming? I am not sure i want to be apart of

this .. this is the reason i left christianity.. it is this kind of attitude

I find most evil of all.

You can change the format of messages that you receive to Plain Text

instead of HTML. The Atkins ad only seem to be one with picture, and

the Plain Text version does not display picture.

1) Go to http://www./ and log in

2) Select RawSeattle from the menu at the left

3) Select Edit My Membership at the right

4) Select Do not convert to HTML at the bottom

5) Select Save Changes button.

Good luck

Graham

I seem to have stumbled onto this by default somehow because I was wondering

what ads people were referring to! Thanks for the info Graham, and for the

chuckle at the end of your post. :)
