Guest guest
Hi all, I am transitioning my kitty to a raw diet. Does anyone have suggestions for great raw recipes for yummy food for cats? He is poo poohing frozen chicken medalions. I am thinking of buying him some buffalo meat as he likes this. Any prepared raw foods that you would recommend? Thanks! Guest guest
There are a bunch of BARF (Bones and Raw Food) groups. Here is a URL to help you find them: /search?query=BARF I use a recipe that I got from one of the groups (I'll send it to Cindy directly, but let me know if anyone else would like to see it) and my cat loves it. -Heather/starrrie crlarksong wrote: Hi all, I am transitioning my kitty to a raw diet. Guest guest
Hi Cindy, I feed my 3 cats raw. I started out feeding the almost-7 year old brothers raw for 1 year, then got lazy. I transitioned back over a year ago, and our 10 month old kitty has always been raw. Here's a link to a good recipe: http://www.blakkatz.com/recipes.pdf I don't use all of the vitamin suppliments, but I do add the seaweeds and the salmon oil, and I add powedered wheatgrass. I can tell you more specifically what and where I buy the ingredients if you e-mail me at bystrom (I don't think other raw vegans would necessarily want to read all the nitty gritty). A word of caution: when I first transitioned them back to raw, I included about 10% of vegetables. Since I get a box of organic produce delivered, I generally gave them whatever was in that. At the time, there was a lot of chard. Our baby kitty (she was 2-3 months old at the time) got VERY sick from the chard, though it took us a whole, agonizing month to figure out what it was (it looked like a disease at first, though she tested negative for all the diseases). I don't vaccinate them, so I had a vet or two really mad at me. It turned out to be the high oxalates in the chard (also present in spinach and, I think, kale) that caused a psudo-gout reaction, thus her paws were like pins and needles when she tried to walk, and all of her joints were incredibly painful. It was pure hell. When we finally figured it out and I got her off of that, she improved rapidly, and is now the picture of sweet, cuddly health. Give me a holler if you want more info. I've researched it quite a bit. Tina
Guest guest
Hi, Cindy - Have you tried the Amore (also frozen, prepared, little packets)? Our cats like that, and they don't like the Natures Variety (which would be the frozen chicken medallions). Amore also has raw chicken necks, wings, and little quail, all frozen. Those bring out the " primal instincts " in a kitty, and give them good chewing exercise. Now, our present kitties were introduced to raw as soon as we got them at 6 weeks of age. They have had very little cooked cat food, mostly some kibble that Victoria found and tore her way into. Our previous cat, who died a little over a year ago, was introduced (at least, we tried) to raw food a couple of years before he died, and he would nibble at it, but he wasn't very interested in it. So, depending on how old your cat is, you may have varying degrees of success (or lack thereof). We know that cats can be very fussy eaters. (Ours love pumpkin seed butter, but will be reluctant to eat it if we put it into the same dish that their Amore is in, especially if it runs down and mixes in with the Amore.) One trick with the Amore that you can't do with the medallions - you can put the intact packets into a small container of warm water and quick-thaw them. Guest guest
Hi Heather, I would love to have your recipe for raw cat food. My cats will only eat small pieces of raw chicken but won't eat any bone. Thanks, Breezi _____ Heather Andersen [starrrie333] Wednesday, June 02, 2004 1:09 PM : RawSeaTottle Re: [RawSeattle] good raw recipes for cats? < I use a recipe that I got from one of the groups (I'll send it to Cindy directly, but let me know if anyone else would like to see it) and my cat loves it. -Heather/starrrie >
Guest guest
Ack! I had a mishap with a bradnew garden hose last night and ended up taking a very cold shower in my backyard. Needless to say I lost my mind for a moment and forgot to send this to you! Our cat doesn't like bones a whole lot either. We trick her though: We bought an old-fashioned metal meat grinder and we grind up turkey and chicken bones and all. I'll send you the recipe when I get home tonight (around 10pm). -Heather Bob & Breezi <bobandbreezi wrote: Hi Heather, I would love to have your recipe for raw cat food.
