Guest guest
Good morning, I just thought you might like to know that fresh figs are becoming available. I had some today at a local Mediterranean grocer here in Morgantown. You might find them in Seattle as well since they appear to be California grown. They were magnificent. No comparison to the dried ones I have been eating the rest of the year. Nickolas Hein Morgantown WV
Guest guest
Hi, Nick. Yes, the black mission figs are available in Whole Food Market but they are quite pricy, 3.99 a pound. Is there a Whole Food Market in George Town? The apricots from Frog Hollow Farm (in California) are excellent, brix up to 20 and yummy. They are also 3.99/lb. Guest guest
Nick, Yes, I have had some the last couple of days, organic ones from Whole Foods. Unfortunately, I am going to be giving them up, as I'm about to start Gabriel Couusens's program a go, which calls for no high glycemic fruits, although later minimal amounts can be eaten. Too bad, they're just about my favorite fruit. Mark Good morning, I just thought you might like to know that fresh figs are becoming available. Guest guest
Thanks for that info, Helen, I've been paying $4.99 at PCC. I'm looking forward to the grand opening of the new Whole Foods in Bellevue! Nora Helen wrote: > Hi, Nick. Guest guest
Helen, I paid 65cents each for the figs here. I ate them all in one day because a) they were close to molding b) I have lousy self control. There is a Whole Foods market in Pittsburgh, about 70 miles north of Morgantown (you meant Morgantown rather than Georgetown didn't you?) but everything is REAL expensive there. A few blocks down the street is the East Side Co-op market which has friendlier and more helpful staff, better stuff and sensible prices. The positive impact of having Whole Foods is that the ESC has remodelled and improved their selection to compete. I strongly recommend it if you are ever out this way. Here in Morgantown there is an excellent small coop and that is where I get most of my stuff. We don't make regular trips to Pittsburgh, mostly because I don't like driving - but it is a fabulous city with amazing community neighborhoods.
