Guest guest
Dear All, I regulary contribute to several organizations (PETA, ALDF, Farm Sanctuary, etc.), but I saw " The Witness " for the first time on PBS on Monday night and I am still *extremely* upset by what I saw. I would like to make a donation that will specifically help to stop the horrific torture of animals that are bred and/or trapped for their fur. If you have any suggestions of where a contribution is likely to do the most good for these animals, please let me know. Thank you. Guest guest
Last I heard, CAFT was not a very active group anymore as the main person behind it, JP Goodwin, is now working with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Stephanie, you ask a valid and wonderful question. I have come to believe that the best donation an person can make is to a local group ... one where all (or most) of the people volunteer their time, and where all (or most) of your donation will go toward programs - not overhead, large salaries, and more fundraising. One such local group is Freedom For Animals. A $25, $50, or $100 donation to FFA will go much further toward helping animals than to a large, national group. And you donation would also stay within your community. I know some of the fine people at FFA, many of who have taken part in weekly anti-fur protests in front of Neiman Marcus for years. They are there every week, on their on time, without fail. Guest guest
In regard to Joe's endorsement of supporting Freedom For Animals (FFA), truer words were never spoken. And thanks to FFA for a fun AR book club meeting last night. The book was " Dominion " by Matthew Scully. It sparked a lot of controversy so it must be worth reading. The FFA AR book club will next meet to discuss Jim Mason's " An Unnatural Order " on August 28. (Thanks for the donated books, Joe.) Nora will post details before then, but if you can make it that evening, start reading and save the date on our calendar. It's in paperback. - Joseph Connelly SFBAVEG Wednesday, July 30, 2003 4:21 PM Re: [sfBAVeg] Where should I Donate -Need Suggestions Last I heard, CAFT was not a very active group anymore as the main person behind it, JP Goodwin, is now working with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Guest guest
I'd like to suggest Tribe of Heart, the small non-profit who produced the wonderful documentary that you saw, " The Witness " . They are getting close (Fall '03) to releasing their next documentary based on farmed animals, " Peaceable Kingdom " , and are featuring Farm Sanctuary. Helping them by contributing funds to their work, I think, is a great contribution to these dedicated animal activists who create great tools that are seen by thousands of folks, who have the same reaction as you did, Stephanie! The more donations we give them, the more exposure their documentaries can get; hence, more people experiencing what Stephanie did! I gave them a donation several months ago after getting their newsletter telling me the progress they've made on " Peaceable Kingdom " and I got a wonderfully handwritten card back from them. Wow, that really meant a lot to me.
