Guest guest
Hi all, In my never ending quest to find vegan restaurants that can prepare a McDougall style dish, I've found an Gojo's Ethiopian in San Jose! For those who aren't familiar with McDougall dishes, the menu is always vegan, and avoids the addition of any oils. Natural, unrefined fats can be added in moderations from sources such as nuts, avocado, tofu and so on. Two great web sites for fat free info: www.fatfree.com www.drmcdougall.com Back back toe Gojo.... First I called ahead and told them about the no-oil request. Explained water saute to the cook/owner. They said they could do it for a party of around 4-6, So, I called a few of my brave friends and we tried it out. Success (even the meat'ers like it!!) Finally great tasting Ethiopian food that isn't dripping in a pool of oil. I know I'm in the minority on this diet, but for those interested in some great food without the hidden costs of pure fat/oil, you've got to try Gojo! Even for those looking for " normal " ethiopian should support this nice little place for that matter. If there is more than just myself and my group of test subjects willing to give the Fat-Free version a try, let me know and I'll arrange another McDougall style sitting for the group. I've called everyone in Berkeley and they told me I'm nuts. Out of 10... not one would do a special meal request as they make everything in the morning and simple ladle it out onto your plate throughout the day (so much for made to order or fresh.... I know, it's all about prep and the mass market!). take care, and happy eating. - chuck
