Guest guest
I am interested in the topic of vegan animals. My pet friends have most recently been changed to a vegan diet. I have been reading all correspondence hoping to learn useful information to benefit them. I am surprised all of this childish bantering is going on in a forum such as this, and hope it stops, because I am really tired of reading it. Let's stick to what is good for the animals. Thank you, Tina Shannon

I am dismayed at the content of this list. I joined about three months ago in the hope that I could learn something useful as a struggle to become more of a vegan. But there seems to be far too much of the fanatics posting and I sit here thinking to myself... goodness, these people need to calm down! And some of the hyperbole is just plain old hypocritical. I can only wonder when I will see people making arguments that animals in the wild killing prey for food should be stopped. Geez. I am an animal too, I and I have no objection to raising animals for the sole purpose of food supply, but I cannot condone the treatment to the animals, environment, and people who work in meat handling jobs nor do I believe the meat to be safe to eat. And I probably will never be able to become a total vegan for health reasons. I will never purchase leather hats/coats, but I know my next hiking boots and wallet will be leather but not until this one is in tatters. I have the strength of conviction to not indulge in <favorite non-veg item here> when I feel like it, and I do as much as I possibly can, which I am sure would not be enough for many of the posters that have expressed extreme views on this list. So, I am going to sign off this list and instead use the web to search for information which can help me become more than a 90% vegan. But if that is all that I can manage, so be it. I truly am disappointed and hope that there are more moderate people out there who are the silent type. Happy eating, Shelley
Guest guest
I regret that you find the group too extreme for your liking, Shelley, and that you will be leaving the group because you find it too extreme. The vegans I know are an extremely diverse group of people with numerous and sometimes conflicting views on subjects related to our common interest. Your views are far more expansive and complex than many and they seem moderately conservative to me, as, unlike you, I do not believe in raising animals to be exploited for food. But, your moderate viewpoint might seem far more " extreme " to someone who has just begun to think about the many important reasons to go veg*n. To someone like that, you appear so far-out as to have escaped the bonds of gravity. Let's face it, Shelley, a 90% vegan doesn't need help to expand to 100%. You'll make it with or without this list if you really want to. But, support always makes change more fun. So, stick around for the support or leave us if you must. But remember, one thing that our diverse veg*n population insures is that conversations are rarely boring. So, the next time you're bored by an on-line group, don't blame us! - Shelley L. Guest guest
Shelley -- just in case you haven't d yet, let me add my two cents. In my experience, there are only two kinds of vegans: 1. So-called " ethical vegans. " Ethical vegans tend to be former vegetarians who find they can no longer ignore the hypocrisy of vegetarianism (i.e the dairy industry's symbiotic relationship with the veal industry, etc.) 2. Doctor-imposed vegans. These are very simply people who have been ordered by their doctors to eat a vegan diet or risk a hastier death. (These folks still wear leather, etc., but you get the point I'm sure) Suffice it to say that you have to have an extremely compelling reason to be vegan. Granted, it's not for everyone, and most vegans I know are supportive of those people like yourself who are exploring varying levels of vegetarianism/veganism. In my opinion, anything you can do to reduce the suffering of animals is good. Not all vegans are extremists, but we are all passionate about our convictions! Shelley L.
