Schools adopt veg lunches Great news for schools in Los Angeles! The Healthy School Lunch Resolution (ACR16) asking schools to offer a daily vegetarian lunch option has been adopted by a vote of the Board at LAUSD and soy milk will be piloted at 5 school sites as well. The momentum is spreading in large part because of parents, health advocates and others who are taking the time to lend their voices in support of these changes. This is a testament to the power of our voices. When we all take a few minutes to share our menu preferences in public venues, we have the capacity to generate serious and progressive change. If you would like to get involved in pursuing a similar change in your own school district, please contact CHOICE, which is spearheading the national effort. Soy Happy is on board as an advisor. We didn't think it was enough to simply replace snickers with granola bars, and either did they.... This is quite amazing considering the whole cafeteria component of the measure was chopped out. Written as a separate tenet, vegetarian options remained in the resolution. As the 2nd largest district in the nation (700 schools), I expect more districts to follow our lead! CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to everyone for your support Segment from today's Los Angeles Times Article: Sale of Junk Food at School Banned L.A.
