Guest guest
Hi Marcy, Just my two cents worth, but I would not recommend trusting in Taco Bell's ability to prepare a vegan meal. Even if the beans don't have cheese in them, you can bet your bottom dollar that they are prepared right next to where the meat and cheese is prepared, thus making them tainted by association! Plus, why on earth support a junk food chain with your money?? I have had a couple of bad experiences eating so-called vegetarian options at restaurants which offer both meat-based and vegetarian fare. Once I ordered minestrone soup and found a piece of red meat floating in it, and another time I ordered a mixed green salad and found a piece of chicken in it. If even slightly more upscale restaurants can't get it right, then I shudder at the thought of what goes into the likes of a Taco Bell or McDonald " vegetarian " meal. Hi All- For some time now, I've heard that Dr. John McDougall recommends Taco Bell for a fast-food vegan meal, being that you can get a bean & rice burrito. It seemed a " given " that this was a sure vegan fast-food option. Just yesterday a vegan friend told me that she was told by someone (are you following this?) that Taco Bell puts cheese in their beans. She has taken this " fact " as a given for some time, as does her circle of vegan friends. I thought I'd put this out to this list to stir things, er....... the beans...... up a bit..........Does anyone know what the truth is? I know BOTH can't be true! Guest guest
I think this subject has been hashed over a few times here. But to answer your question: sometimes people don't have any other choice (like if you're in a car with a bunch of other people trying to figure out where to get drive-through food on a trip, and you have limited options for vegan-friendly food), sometimes people actually like the food (and there's lots of vegan junk food out there, too, that's just as bad for you). Those TB Cinnamon Twists are yummy!... -Kim, who's had her share of Taco Bell burritos and BK Veggie Burgers On Wed, 5 Nov 2003, Joanna wrote: > Plus, why on earth support a junk food chain with your money?? Guest guest
This topic is kind of like the cat food thread -- revisited every few months. But, since the moderator hasn't had a chance to step in and end it yet, I'll take this time to put in my two cents as well : ) : >Plus, why on earth support a junk food chain with your money?? Because asking the rest of society to go vegan is hard enough, much less asking them to stop eating at all fast food restaurants and restaurants that serve meat. By supporting vegan entrees at such restaurants we can encourage them to keep and expand their vegan entrees. I'm not saying all vegans should do this, but just wanted to answer the question why someone would do so. Guest guest
Hi Joanna & All- I'd just like to set the record straight, and thank you Joanna for your comments. I totally agree, and actually haven't set foot in a fast-food restaurant in many years. Nor do I plan to. Even when I travel, I manage to avoid it. For all the reasons Joanna mentions, and then some! I'm in the process of reading Fast Food Nation, which I recommend to everyone. I asked the question about the beans because I'd heard two opposing statements and wanted to get the facts straight. These issues come up in conversation, and as we know, there are vegans who do frequent fast food chains. Therefore, I figured, it would be good to have the correct information on hand. My question has, I believe, been answered. I've received plenty of information from you all, thank you!
