Guest guest
Hi all its my first time posting here, though I have been a member for over a month, so please forgive me if I goof up somehow! We are moving from Berkeley to join a cohousing community in Pleasant Hill (which is near Walnut Creek, not to be confused with Pleasan'ton') . Does anyone know of vegan friendly restaurants in that area of Phill, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Concord, etc ?? I am sure there are no pure vegetarian restaurants as I searched thru many websites. I do know there are a couple of Indian food restaurants in Concord and one in Walnut Creek; but I am specifically lookng for non-Indian food restaurants Thanks much Veena Check out intentional communty info at www.cohousing.org
Guest guest
Veena, Welcome to Contra Costa County. It's not as veg-friendly as some of the other counties in the bay area, but we make do. Memo's in Concord is a vegan friendly Mexican restaurant. They aren't as popular as they were before they changed owners, but they've kept their vegetarian section of the menu intact. Most of their vegetarian entrees include cheese and sour cream as garnish, but I just ask them to leave them off or to substitute extra guacamole and salsa. They also have a couple of vegan desserts including a sort of fruit cobbler baked in a pumpkin shell -- it sounded good, but they were out of it, so I didn't get a chance to try it the last time I went there. Golden Willow in Concord is a vegan friendly Chinese restaurant. They devote a half page of their menu to vegetable and fake-meat entrees. There are also a couple of veg-friendly Thai restuanants in Concord and Walnut Creek, but I can't remember the names right now. Black Diamond Brewery in Walnut Creek makes a pretty good pizza, and they will gladly make one without the cheese. I'm not sure if their pizza crust is vegan, but I'm sure they'd tell anyone who asked. I hope that helps. -Rob
