The good news is that it's a completely effective weight management tool.Anyways, I keep reading labels on all the low carb bars and have yet to find one that's vegan (most contain milk and whey). I heard a while back that Atkins had a vegan bar, but have not seen it. Anyone hip to this stuff? Thanks,JoshBAY AREA VEGETARIANS (BAV) is a community group for veggies to network & find support. Guest guest
They may be vegan, but they're certainly not low carb. The one here at my desk lists 27g of carbs just for that one bar. Guest guest
If anyone out there has experience losing weight or feeling improved health on a low-carb vegan diet, I'd be interested to hear about it. I've done a lot of (secondary) research on the subject and my thoughts are that to lose weight, a whole foods (no sugary drinks or juice, white bread, white pasta, white rice, added oils, etc.) vegan diet is just as effective while easier to follow. Of course, individuals differ, and I'm speaking in generalities. Guest guest
the latest issue of herbivore magazine is running a story about a bunch of vegans who tried an all-vegan version of the atkins diet, eating nothing but fake meats, tofu, and the occasional canned pumpkin. it was a resounding failure, but still worth a read. Guest guest
There are two kinds of carbs, complex and simple. Simple carbs such as white flour and white rice are NOT healthful. Complex carbs such as whole grains are very healthful. Complex carbs are very important for optimal health. As far as losing weight, I have had very good luck losing weight on a diet that included a lot of carbs but they were complex carbs including brown rice and whole wheat pasta and whole grain bread and other whole grain products. I recently dropped 25 lbs on this diet with no problem whatsoever. Based on everything I have read and experienced I have come to the conclusion that the best and healthiest way to lose and maintain a healthy weight is a high fiber, low fat vegan diet that includes whole grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes as well as a small amount of nuts and seeds and I try to avoid processed foods as much as I can. Take care Warren
