You can get (I believe) lacto-vegetarians (consume milk and milk products but not eggs) and ovo-vegetarians (consume eggs but not milk and milk products.) And then there are vegans who consume no dairy produce whatsoever. Jinnie the Perky Goth _______________ It's fast, it's easy and it's free. Lacto refers to dairy products and Ovo to eggs. It just means the person eats eggs and milk. Personally, I don't like the term. It's too " scientific " for me. I prefer just to be called a vegetarian. > im sure its a stupid question but i dont know also if morningstar > uses gmo then what commercially marketed products are safe for > consumption for those of us who dont want gmo's in our food ?? http://www.truefoodnow.org/shoppersguide/ This is an excellent printable list of food products that do contain and food products that do not contain GMOs. Of course, as Gene stated in an earlier post, it is becoming more difficult to avoid them due to cross-contamination, cross-pollination and just our government in general not caring if we know what we are eating or not. http://organicconsumers.org/ Lots of good information on this one! http://www.thecampaign.org/ This is the campaign to label genetically modified foods. AND, for those who don't know, Presidential candidate and House Rep Dennis Kucinich was the leader in initiating proposed legislation to get GMO foods labelled. www.kucinich.us He's also, of course, a vegan! > thanks any info you could give me would be appreciated thanks again
Guest guest
This is an open question to the entire group: How have all of you dealt with the flatulence that accompanies the vegetarain diet? I'm 9 weeks in my dietary change...I use dairy and don't eat eggs, as a rule. Any suggestions? Smiles!

I haven't had the problem. I worked my way up to eating lots of beans, and it never gave me a problem. serene -- http://www.mediachest.com/users/serene/profile.html

I don't think it necessarily accompanies a vegetarian diet. If you haven't already, you might want to read a bit about food combining. You don't have to be really strict with it, but I've heard for others and experienced myself that it helps with all sorts of digestive problems. Generally I think it's based on consuming quickly digested foods before slowly digested foods so they don't interfere with each other in the digestive tract. lance
Guest guest
Hi! I agree with Josh - if you do eat cheese, milk, etc., try experimenting with cutting that out. Also, Dr. Michael Greger answers the question of gas in a previous newsletter (see the bottom of the newsletter for his response). http://www.veganmd.org/november2003.html Best wishes, ~Caity
