Guest guest
the reviews of geranium have been mixed, so i wanted to throw in my experience, in the hope that i can save people their hard earned cash. where to begin. when we first walked through the door, absolutely no one greeted us or made any attempt to seat us, which set the tone for the rest of the dinner. (once we were seated, the service was fine.) however, i was willing to forgive minor glitches if the food was worthwhile. it wasn't. the food was bad and overpriced. and i don't mean it was " bad " in the sense that perhaps the kitchen was having an off night. i mean everything about the food, from the recipes to the presentation was extremely low quality and foul tasting. i had the " eat " loaf and my wife had the bbq'ed seitan. the bbq'ed seitan was literally a slab of microwaved packaged seitan with bbq sauce splattered on it. it came with a side of steamed spinach, which tasted like it had been soaking in dirty laundry or fish water. my eat loaf wasn't too bad (but not great), but half of it was onions. the mashed potatos tasted funny to me, and after further inspection, my wife realized that the funny flavor tasted exactly like sour cream! if true, it's extremely upsetting for a vegetarian restaurant to serve a " vegan " dish containing a hidden dairy ingredient. if the food had been $7 a plate, i would have called it mediocre. at $12 a plate, i am outraged. other examples of how they rip off customers: an ordinary plate of diner fries (identical to the fries at sparky's) with heinz ketchup: $4. even water was expensive. they wouldn't just bring me a glass of filtered water - i had to pay for a fancy bottle of san pelligrino. now, just to make it clear, i am definitely not cheap when it comes to dining. fine dining is one of my great loves in life, and i will gladly spend money on an exquisitely prepared dish and an enjoyable dining experience. but if you really want to spend $50 on having a bad taste left in your mouth and an unpleasant feeling in your stomach, i recommend a night of drinking tequilla instead. -- steve simitzis : /sim' - i - jees/ pala : saturn5 productions www.steve.org : 415.282.9979 hath the daemon spawn no fire? Hey Steve, Sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. Thanks for sharing.... Additionally, I would encourage you (and everyone else) to post feedback for restaurants in the Ultimate Guide to Vegetarian Living in the SF Bay Area (UG for short!) This way your review can be found by others ( including the restaurant managers/owners!! ) ... not just some email that becomes a hazy memory or post in the archive... And, yes, you do have the ability to edit your reviews, too, if over time your experience at a restaurant changes. http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/ UG is a great way for folks new to the area to get the scoop on where folks can buy veg food, both good/bad. So far there are over 200 entries in UG, nearly 200 reviews, and the entry for Geranium alone has been read over 200 times.
