Guest guest
Hello All, My husband and I have been wanting to try the Millenium restaurant in San Francisco for some time. It was recommended to us as a gourmet vegetarian restaurant. So last evening we and a vegetarian friend of ours went to dinner there. To say it was a disappointment is an understatement. All of the menu items were highly spiced, curried, hot peppered, etc. Not to mention the exorbitant prices! Now a bit of spice is ok, but for those of us like myself who don't like or can't tolerate highly spicy hot foods it was a real problem finding anything to eat. I ordered the portabella mushroom dish, and found that was " encrusted in black pepper " . Not mentioned on the menu, but I asked how it was cooked. They cooked it without the pepper for me, but it was plain and tasteless. Underneath it was about a half cup of mush that was supposed to be " warm potato salad & tofu with chicory " . The tiny peices of tofu were hard and almost inedible . Truly awful. For this they charged $22. The salad was edible, but at $9 a rip-off . A side dish of steak fries was $5 and they too were of poor quality, dry and mealy with almost no flavor as if frozen. The mousse cake dessert was good, but a small sliver was $8. Coffee was $3. My husband couldn't eat anything except a salad, and that was so spicy hot that he had difficulty with it. Our guest, who likes spicy & curried foods, ate half of his dish because even for him it was too hot. The entire fiasco cost $140 without any alcohol, just tap water & 2 coffees. We are still looking for a good veggie/vegan restaurant in San Francisco. Any suggestions? Thanks! Lilith
Guest guest
Wow. I'm really sorry, Lilith, that you had such a disappointing experience. I've been there twice and other than the indifferent attitude of the servers, I loved it. I too cannot tolerate spicy food, but this has not been a problem at Millennium. The menu the night you went must have been heavy on the spice. They are usually very good about accommodating particular diets. It is expensive, but usually worth it. Did you say something to the management and/or your server? I think they should know how unhappy you were. Cheers - Moya Lilith Aquino <spiritwolf5 wrote: Hello All,My husband and I have been wanting to try theMillenium restaurant in San Francisco for some time.It was recommended to us as a gourmet vegetarianrestaurant. Guest guest
Hey Lillith, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Millenium. I've had nothing but exceptional food and service there well worth the price considering the preporation that went into the food but everyone is different and we don't all enjoy the same things. Have you tried Herbivore? It is more of a low to mid range priced restaurant with multi ethnic/comfort food type offerings. The food is not as sophisticated or labor intensive as Millenium's menu but there are still many yummy dishes on their menu. Several of their dishes are spicey but you can simply ask the server what to avoid to suit your tastes. Good luck. Guest guest
I have had nothing but excellent food and service at Greens, although it too is pricey. Good luck!
