Guest guest
This is one of the main reasons why I ALWAYS choose 100% vegetarian, and preferably 100% vegan, restaurants: in my experience I've found mixed (non-vegetarian) restaurants to be extremely untrustworthy. Often, there are animal products in "veg*n" dishes. Even when veg*n dishes are "veg*n" the employees in these places don't care about veg*n customers' preferences and I never trust them to not touch (whether it be by stirring spoon, counter, etc.) my vegan food to animal product food. I also like to support those who have made a point of selling and serving veg foods only. It's too bad, though, as from the description of Zante's vegan pizza I was tempted to try it; it sounds delicious. Maybe those of you who have patronized them could suggest that ALL their crust be made milk free as animal milk is certainly not a needed ingredient in their crusts. By the way, the rare times that I find myself at a mixed restaurant, I have no compunction about lying and saying I'm allergic to eggs & dairy, etc. It's amazing what you can find out about ingredients in that way, as I find that restaurant workers will check with cooks and cooks will never give misinformation to allergic people but seem to have no problems doing so to vegetarians. Their website, and many articles about Zante's, say that they have a vegan Indian pizza - but someone tipped us off that there may be milk in the crust and that Zante's seems to think that it's okay to still call the pizza vegan, as it doesnt have cheese on top. Today we stopped by again ask in person about the ingredients . We specifically asked "Does it have ANY dairy? ", and got the firm answer No. When we asked what the specific ingredients were, we were told "milk", by two different employees (including a cook). When we spoke to the manager he said they make a different batch of dough without milk for the vegan pizza, and use that for the vegan pizzas - but, coincidentally, this was after we told him that milk in the crust = not vegan. If anyone has any other information about Zante's pizza dough crust, please share. Note: We are not saying that the "vegan pizza" at Zante's is not vegan. We are only saying that we received conflicting information. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any confusion.
