Greetings fellow SFBAveggies. If you are around this Labor Day Monday, why not

join us

for a hike and swim at beautiful Bass Lake, Point Reyes?

We envisage a relaxing day in and out of the water, swimming, lounging, basking,

sharing

vegan food and exploring some of the nearby trails. Swimming in the dark green,

mirror-

like waters of Bass Lake surrounded by dense fir forest is an experience not to

be missed!!

So pack your swim-trunks and flotation device of choice, together with all the

usual

sunscreen, hat et al! There is a pretty meadow by the lake which is ideal for

picnicking so

bring some lunch + a vegan snack to share if you would like. The hike to Bass

Lake from

the Palomarin Trailhead is 2.6 miles. We are also planning a hike to picturesque

Pelican

Lake not far away and if the general consensus is that more hiking is needed, we

can

certainly embark on a longer walk as trails abound in this area!

A good place to meet and carpool is the park and ride lot in Mill Valley. The

park and Ride

lot is underneath the freeway at the junction of hiway 1 and 101 across from the

Buckeye

Roadhouse Restaurant. We will meet there at 10.00 am  and then drive to the

Palomarin

Trailhead at Point Reyes. Alternatively, you could meet us at the trailhead at

11.00.

To reach the Palomarin Trailhead: From US 101 in Marin County, exit CA 1/Mill

Valley/

Stinson Beach. Drive on Shoreline Highway to the junction with Almonte, about 1

mile.

Turn left on CA 1 and drive about 2.5 miles to the junction with Panoramic.

Continue

straight on CA 1 about 13 miles to an unsigned junction with Olema-Bolinas Road

(just

past Bolinas Marsh). Turn left. Drive 0.1 mile to a T intersection with

Olema-Bolinas Road,

turn left, drive about 1 mile to the junction with Horseshoe Hill Road, and

again, turn left.

Drive to the next stop sign, then turn right onto Mesa Road. Drive about 4

miles, then

continue the last 1 mile on the dirt road to the trailhead at the end of the

road.

Please RSVP to Mike and Joanna if you would like to join us on this hike so we

can get an

idea of numbers/carpools etc. Thanks, and Happy Hiking!
