Guest guest
About 100 chickens are safely on their way to Animal Place this morning! They were the last ones remaining at the Gilroy battery cages where about 2,000 were rescued a couple of weeks ago. It was so nice to see them take steps and spread their wings for the first time! -Melissa
Guest guest
Thanks for the update, Melissa! I want to add that Kim at Animal Place also rescued a bunch of chicken evacuees from Katrina as well. For folks new to the area, or to the list, I just want to clarify that "Animal Place" is a sanctuary for animals in Vacaville (about an hour north of SF). Their last farm tours are on 9/24 and 10/15. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet the animals, hear their stories, and interact and feed them treats like carrots and greens. The $10 for the tour is money well-spent. Lena organized a trip for Bay Area Vegetarians in April; we had about 30 people attend and everyone loved it. The trip started off with a "hayride" down a gravel rode. Kim (the founder) give us an orientation and the cutest little potbellied pigs sat by the gate, waiting for us to come through (obviously lots of people before us had brought them treats). And we didn't disappoint them! Here's a picture of Chris feeding them carrots. http://www.bayareaveg.org/gallery2/v/ap05/IMG_0007.jpg.html Here's some reviews people have posted about AP in the Ultimate Guide http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=114 Please go directly to Animal Place's website to learn more about them, how to get involved and support their work for caring for the animals. http://www.animalplace.org Cheers, Tammy Now podcasting and blogging at - http://www.GenerationV.org
