Guest guest
What do people think is the best vegan pizza place? I live in San Francisco, so something there would be good, but I'm frequently in other parts of the Bay Area, so hearing about other places is great, too. I've tried Panhandle Pizza, and it's okay, but if someone knows of a better place, I'd love to hear about it. I saw that earlier on the list people discussed Zante's. I've asked them about their pizza and they said that the crust contains dairy products. Has this changed? Jen
Guest guest
Zante's told me their crust is vegan. IMHO, they make the best vegan pizza. The Indian food is not bad either. tony On Nov 5, 2005, at 7:53 PM, jennyw wrote: > What do people think is the best vegan pizza place? Guest guest
I would also suggest doing keyword search on "pizza" in the Ultimate Guide database and check out reviews people have posted there. And also post your own reviews there. That's one of the reasons we have reviews in UG so people can share opinions. Everyone's tastes are different, but hopefully it should all average out in the long run. I wish there was an all veg pizzeria in town ... http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug We've had a best vegan pizza category in the BEST OF VEG contest for the last few years and those results are also noted there. There's still time to vote for folks who haven't http://www.bayareaveg.org/vote What else .. oh - pizza has been discussed on the list recently - quite a few times - just search the archives for "pizza" and you'll see else has been previously posted. That's one of the drawbacks of a mailing list, information is hard to find once it's been posted (whereas in a discussion forum, it would stay threaded). But very important and worth repeating : Zante's pizza may say "vegan" on their website and printed menu - and when we asked at the restaurant, they told us it was too. But when Chris and I specifically asked what the ingredients are, they told us milk and then they tried to say they had a different crust for the vegan pizza that did not include milk. This was probably two or three months ago that we found this out, first-hand, by visiting the restaurant and talking to them. Guest guest
About Zante's -- Does anyone besides Tammy have info on what's really in the crust? When I grilled them about it over the phone a while ago, they were pretty clear that their crust was *definitely not vegan*, but things may have changed. Tammy -- you said they tried to say they have a separate crust for their vegan pizza -- does this mean you doubt that they do? Also, I know about the Ultimate Guide, but I wanted to get an idea of how people compare the pizza places relative to each other, which is hard to tell from the UG. Plus, new info keeps coming up, like the bit about the non-vegan cheese being used at Pizza Plaza for a while. Glad to hear (on the list) that this ended on a good note. I also saw the info about Zante's crust in the UG, but wanted to see if there was a similar positive update, like for Pizza Plaza. Seems like there are still some vegans eating the pizza there who are under the impression that the pizza is vegan, while others doubt it. Guest guest
In the East Bay, there is Lanesplitters pizza - they have 3 locations in Oakland and Berkeley. They also have vegan calzones.
