Guest guest
So far all the responces Ive gotten go for unturky. Question is..which one is healthier for you??? One contains soy...which isnt that great for you (studies show its hard to digest, and is full of estrogen which offsets your hormonal balance, and soy is a common allergen. Unturkey is made of wheat gluten which is also a common allergen, and also makes your red blood cells stick together. Well..you could always make a faux turkey stuffing with raw soaked/sprouted nuts, seeds, celery, sage, garlic, onion, poutry seasonings, nama shoyu, etc....! Or just enjoy it for a special occasion and not worry about it! Id love to try an unturky sometime..see how it is! Brother John , " angeliclive " <angeliclive> wrote: > > Which one is better? Regarding this comment, I read an article recently that new studies show that in fact soy does not offset your hormonal balance as long as you don't overdo it. It's true that soy is a common allergen but that doesn't mean that everyone is allergic to soy so for those who are not allergic it's not an issue. The same article also stated that soy is a powerful cancer fighter. Based on what I read in this article and what I've heard Dr. Neal Barnard from PCRM say, soy is actually quite healthful as long as you don't overdo it. Guest guest
UnTurkey is the way to go... I made it last year..and it was 100 times better than Tofurkey. I followed the directions on the UnTurkey but I threw away the "skin". I bought vegan phyllo dough (Whole Foods) ( I had tested it with the skin that it comes with..but I thought it was way to papery and had a hard time even cutting it.) So I got the phyllo dough which flakes up and browns and is a beautiful presentation! I wrapped the yummy stuff in it. BUT before I closed it up I poured some of the gravy over the "meat" and then sealed up the phyllo dough. I basted the dough with some vegan margarine a few times. It was excellant! My guests were amazed and so was I ! This year I am making it again but also adding a Celebration Roast, which I sampled at the SF World Veg Day and thought it was OUTSTANDING! It is also bought at WF...FROM THE DELI COUNTER..it is behind the counter. do not ask for the field roast patties (which are good for every day) but the "Celebration Roast". Bon Appetit! Guest guest
Well..people would love to find how healthy soy is supposed to be good for you...especially if youre the average cooked food vegan, but the evidence against it far outweighs the benefit..for instance the low digestibility of soy. Also, many vegans (myself included) have in the past or not overdo soy in all the fake meats, soymilk, etc.....one cup of soy milk has 8 times the estrogen of a birth control pill. Most soy in the US and asia is also genetically modified which is awful. Even the organic isnt necessarily safe since some organic standards were lowered which in some cases can include Gm products...also the cross pollination makes many organic soy fields GM. Overall the benefits are outweighed from the negative. Its better than meat I beleive, but mostly in karma and energetics. Also..cooked food isnt that great for you anyways..and tofu is cooked. We dont need to eat so much soy anyways...lots fresh raw fruits and veggies and greens....and many other wonderful foods provide us with all the nutrition and aminos/protein we need! " Hi, Brother John. Although I do agree with the statement about fresh fruits and veggies being the best foods (I'd include whole grains, too), I am not so sure about what you are saying about soy being so bad. Where did you get the information that a cup of soy milk has 8 times the estrogen of a birth control pill? (Is it estrogen like you'd get from cow's milk, or phyto-estrogen, which may have some postive effect?) What is the other evidence that you are saying shows that soy is harmful? Lots of books and articles make claims about the value or harm of various foods, but I always like to see where the information came from. An example: In Dr. Atkins' books, he always said that his diet would improve people's cholesterol levels, etc. and lead to optimum health. But where was the evidence for that? T. Colin Campbell's book, The China Study, is filled with information about which foods are shown to be beneficial and which are shown to be harmful. Everything he says in that book is connected to numerous (often hundreds of) studies that point to the validity of his claims. From what I've read by Dr. Barnard and others, I think the claims against soy are exaggerated. Of course, the genetically engineered soy is another issue, but the same issue as other GMO foods. According to Harold Brown of Farm Sanctuary (one of the former farmers shown in Peaceable Kingdom), the number one genetically engineered crop is corn. (I'm not sure where he got that information! :-) ) Karen

Guest guest
In My personal opinion they are both really really salty. Or just too much sodium all together. _rey on 11/22/05 2:54 PM, Sandra Lupien at sandrallupien wrote: > " Based on what I read in this article and what I've > heard Dr. Neal Barnard from PCRM say, soy is actually > quite healthful as long as you don't overdo it.
