Guest guest
I *love* Greens. I had heard in the past that some people had trouble there because they were vegan, and after hearing Deborah Madison speak at a bookstore and go on about how she dislikes vegans because they have " no manners, " I can understand why. But she lives in New Mexico now and doesn't run Greens anymore (and isn't vegetarian, by the way). I went there recently and when I made the reservation I told them we would all want vegan food. They gave us a vegan waiter, who was very well prepared with all the vegan options, and we had a completely delightful meal. They really went out of their way for us. What I love about Greens is their emphasis on fresh produce and local products, and they take center stage over complicated recipes. But to each their own, I guess. Guest guest
I have been disappointed by greens as well. I am not demanding, but the one and only time I went and asked about their vegan options, there was only one entree available that could be vegan. I can understand the frustration among vegans if this is a regular occurrence. I just tried Cafe Lettus last night and that place was great. Lots of organic vegan options! > " brunoandherman " <brunoandherman > > Re: greens >Wed, 08 Feb 2006 05:40:14 -0000 > >I *love* Greens. Guest guest
When I have gone to Greens in the past and "just shown up", the vegan options have been limited, because most dishes are pre-prepared with dairy ingredients. I think Cheryl's suggestion is a good one of calling ahead to let them know you're vegan, to ensure there will be choices and a knowledgeable waitperson. -Saraveggiegrrrl <veggiegrrrl wrote: hi there,i'm vegan and going to greens on sunday with friends (not my choice).anyone have experience with greens being able to accomodate vegans?thanks, amy
Guest guest
Hi Amy, Another vote for " I went there and was disappointed. " I would definitely call ahead to find out what your options will be. I went on Mother's Day several years ago for brunch and the only vegan option was a tofu stir fry. No french toast, no waffles, no tofu scramble, etc. Just broccoli and tofu. Not that tofu stir fry is a bad thing but showed no imagination given that all the lacto-ovo options were actually breakfast food. On top of that, it came with rice with nuts, which I'm allergic to, and they were not very flexible about changing it to give me the roasted potatoes that everyone else was having. But who knows, maybe it'se changed! Emily San Rafael
Guest guest
I would encourage everyone who has voiced an opinion about Green's to also post an official review for them in the ULTIMATE GUIDE TO VEGETARIAN LIVING IN THE BAY AREA By posting a review, you're enabling a slew of folks who use UG to see your review of Green's and decide if they want to try it, or not. Plus, all the reviews are in a centralized spot .. and make it easy for the next person who has a question about Green's to just read the reviews .. That is, after all, the downside of a mailing list - it can be difficult to find past discussions. Greens http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=34 9 reviews, rated 3.89 out of a possible 5.0 Cheers, Tammy Bay Area Vegetarianswww.BayAreaVeg.org

I guess I'm spoiled by the energy and love that one feels in places such as " Cafe Gratitude " from the staff and other patrons. As soon as I sat down at Greens, the table was a bit too close to table behind me and seeing that I moved it a few inches away and I was " rushed " by the waiter who said I was not allowed to do that. I nearly lost it then... It was sad, it was my fourth trip there, the last three like the visit described above. Being a native San Franciscan I could see that the place was not geared towards the neighborhood but people who travel to visit the neighborhood.
