Today I was informed that local radio station 105.9 WHCN-FM is promoting a "Goldfish Survivor" contest. Here are the details from the website:

WELCOME TO WHCN'S GOLDFISH SURVIVOR 2001

We have placed five cheap goldfish in a standard fish tank at the studios of WHCN. Only one will survive. Each week the fish will face challenges...gain imunity...and ultimately face their own mortality. When the tribal council convenes, one fish may literally end up "DOWN THE BOWL." We've named our fish after our beloved announcers who have promised not to tamper with the tank. And best of all you can win $2001. Here's how; Pick which fish you think will die first. If you are right you could end up as one of our semifinalists. Each time a fish expires, you get a chance to chose who will go "BELLY UP" next. When there is only one fish left you must pick the date and time of the survivors demise. From the five semifinalists one winner will swim away with $2001.

GOLDFISH SURVIVOR UPDATE!!

Over the weekend we saw the second tribal council for our goldfish contestants...(two were thrown) out of the tank and into the Bowl...As of now there are only 2 remaining Goldfish Survivors. Remember to pick who will DIE next. If you do, you could become a semifinalist for $2001 just like Steven Wakefield from Colchester and Dana Courrier from Vernon.

There is more, but that is all I will post on the List. I heard that possibly they are not feeding them. If you can, please listen and let us know what is going on.

In the meantime, please email the station and tell them to stop this ill-conceived contest. There are only two fish left - maybe someone can offer to adopt them. If you don't know what to write, just write one line in the "Subject:" line such as:

Please CANCEL the Goldfish Survivor contest immediately

Please CANCEL the ill-conceived Goldfish Survivor contest

Stop killing fish in station promotion

Stop abusing fish

Or whatever you think is appropriate.

We know that fish are sentient creatures, but it is obvious that the DJ's are desensitized and are spreading it around.
