Check the facts, Global Warming not a hoax

On a few group sites, I have been posting important information

about Global Warming and the Climate Control Crises. I have had a

few responses calling me " Chicken Little " and indicating that I

should stop promoting this " hoax hysteria. " I feel vindicated with

the following article:

This month, former mayor of American Canyon, Calif., Cecil Shaver,

wrote an article in the American Canyon Citizens' Echo stating that

global warming is a " sky is falling hoax. " It amazes me that some

people still don't get it. Therefore, please see the following up-to-

date information about climate change with source citations:

Shaver stated that we can't know if global warming is happening

because we only have temperature data since the 1800s. It is

irrelevant that reliable meteorological temperature recording began

in 1861. Technology allows us to retrieve temperature data far older

than this. Recent scientific evidence and conclusions regarding

global warming have been based partly on Antarctic ice core samples

which are able to show temperatures and carbon dioxide levels dating

back more than 650,000 years. These core samples have shown that

carbon dioxide levels and surface temperatures have been

significantly higher in recent years than at any time in the past

650,000 years (Science Vol 310, 25 November 2005:

Shaver stated that some experts disagree about global warming. On

the contrary, there is an overwhelming scientific consensus that

global warming is real and is caused by humans. A recent study

looked at all peer-reviewed scientific papers written about global

warming within a 10 year period. The study took a random sample, 10

percent (or 928) papers, to analyze. The number of papers that

stated humans were not causing global warming or that global warming

isn't a serious problem was exactly zero (Science Vol 306 no. 5702 3

Follow the money. Scientists have absolutely nothing to gain from

overstating global warming or stating that humans are the cause. On

the contrary, the oil industry has everything to lose, to the tune

of tens or even hundreds of billions in annual revenue, if global

warming is taken seriously and controls are put into place to

reverse it. The oil industry regularly hires PR experts to publish

propaganda in an effort to confuse the public (Seattle Post-

The National Academy of Sciences, an agency established by the

federal government, found that global warming is real and that

humans are the cause. Ralph Cicerone, head of that agency, stated

back in July 2005, " Global warming is caused primarily by humans and

nearly all climate scientists today agree with that viewpoint.

Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is now at its highest level in

400,000 years and it continues to rise. Nearly all climate

scientists today believe that much of Earth's current warming has

been caused by increases in the amount of greenhouse gases in the

atmosphere, mostly from the burning of fuels. " (SFGate.com

In December 2006, the Bush administration proposed listing the polar

bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, which " put the

U.S. government on record as saying that global warming could drive

one of the world's most recognizable animals out of existence. " Read

Global warming is real, humans are causing it and we should all

support the effort to control it. We have nothing to lose and

everything to gain by giving this serious threat the care and

attention it deserves. I encourage everyone to rent or buy " An

Inconvenient Truth, " a new DVD movie about climate change, and draw

your own conclusions.

The problem as i see it is that those who refuse to accept Global

Warming as a reality are walking around with blinders on and have

closed minds.Any sane or rational person need look no further than

their own backyard to find examples of the results of human destructive

behaviour upon the planet. The recent climate changes we have

experienced in the last month on the east coast is one example of the

future of our planet. If mankind does not awaken to this problem i

surmise we will eventually become the dinosaur.So please continue your

efforts to enlighten the masses, for chicken little you are not!
