Guest guest
So i found out " potentially " scandalous news yesterday that has yet to be confirmed... but the guy selling the Primavera tamales at the farmers market said he's not 100%, but he thought they used chicken stock/and or butter to make the masa get gelatinous so it forms to the husks!!!!!!!! i was so fuming and grossed out! you know how many of those damn tamales i've eaten thinking they were deliciously vegan???! you know how many vegans and vegetarians buy those things every DAY in the bay area??? Perhaps they're okay and they do take care for the vegan ones (again, yet to be confirmed), but it sounds like they put chicken stock and maybe even butter in them! jesus! they offer three different flavors that are supposedly vegan, the butternut/corn, black bean, and green chile. the package says nowhere that there's fricken chicken stock or butter. can anyone confirm this to be true? i tried calling the company this morning (707.939.9350) but there was no answer. the owner's name is Karen. if this is true, there will be MANY devastated pissed off vegans in the bay area. ick ick ick. nauseatingly, mickey www.veganlust.com
Guest guest
I'm not sure where you live, but wherever it is, it's worth the trip to Berkeley to try Flacos tamales. They are the best tasting ever, and EVERYTHING, including the owner, is vegan. So there is no wondering if some yucky animal product got into your tamale by mistake. They also have taquitos, great beans and rice, and super good avocado salsa. Flacos is at all three Berkeley Farmers Markets. I make a trip to Berkeley (from Novato) frequently to bring home tamales and/or taquitos. They are listed in the Ultimate Guide, in case you want more info. Guest guest
Mick - Before you get too upset, you should try to ask someone who really knows. Generally, masa flour gets gelatinous with just water, no animal products are needed for that. They may, however, use animal products for flavor! Obviously, though, the person you spoke to really has no idea. --erika Karen wrote: > > > I'm not sure where you live, but wherever it is, it's worth the trip to > Berkeley to try Flacos tamales.
