Hello all - I'm considering going on a "spree to Paris" next spring, but I'm a little nervous that once I get there I'll starve. Has anyone been there recently? Are they vegan friendly? I've been to England a few times in the last ten years and they have a pretty successful vegetarian/vegan movement going on, so I'll go back to England if it's too difficult in Paris. Thanks in advance! Cheers - Moya

In the latest VegNews magazine, on page 72, there is an article on vegan in Paris. Some places are:

LaVictoire Supreme Du Coeur, 41 Rue Bourdonnais

Piccolo Teatro, 6 Rue Des Ecouffles

Le Grenier de Notre Dame, 18 Rue de La Bucherie

Les Cinq Saveurs, 72 Rue Cardinal-Lemoine

La Petite Legume, 36 Rue Des Boulangers

Le Potager du Marais ( vegetarian, mostly vegan restaraunt), 22 Rue Rambuteau 75003, (Metro: Rambuteau) phone: 01-42-74-24-66

I typed this directly from the magazine, so I hope there are no typos!

Right next to the St. Michelle fountain there is a street that is

filled with restaurants, I believe Rue De La Huchette is the name of it

- one block up from the square on the right hand side of the street is

a great filafel place that offers about 2 dozen salads and toppings for

your sandwich - and it is very reasonable (certainly by Parisian

standards), I think it was 6.50EU for the sandwich and sides.

Many hotels have free internet access in the lobby so you can always do

a serch when you get there and have a better idea of layout and

location of the city.

Enjoy,

Lina

Jen and I were in Paris this spring. There are quite a few

vegetarian/vegan restaurants. Our favorites were:

Aquarius (in the Montparnasse area, 14th district) -- my favorite veg

restaurant in Paris. I loved this place.

The Dietetic Shop, 11 Rue Delambre (Montparnasse) -- I think

everything was vegan and the people who work there are very nice. It's

very small and very crowded. It was one of the few places we could

find to buy rice milk in France.

Le Grenier de Notre Dame (near Notre Dame Cathedral) -- I liked this

place, but I think a lot of their dishes had dairy products.

There are also a lot of good Indian restaurants in Paris, and they

will usually have several vegetarian dishes, but may not have any

vegan choices.

La Victoire Supreme Du Coeur is run by the followers of Sri Chimoy

(like Ananda Fuara here in San Francisco). It was OK, but more

expensive and not as good as Ananda Fuara or some of the other Sri

Chinmoy restaurants I've been to. Quite a few vegan options, though.

We didn't get to try any of the other restaurants Tracy listed mostly

because they were closed on the day we tried to go there. A lot of the

restaurants are closed on Sundays and holidays or have limited hours.
