Guest guest
When: Sunday, September 24, 2006, 5:00 PM Where: Gayle's 504 Bay Avenue Capitola , CA 95010 831.462.1200 Description: Meet people with poultry companions! This group is for people who have poultry and do not kill them. Exchange information about health, housing, predators, vets, bird flu, biosecurity, and more. More information: http://chicken.meetup.com/3/ Rescuing chickens and other fowl: To find chickens at animal control, use this website: http://www.petharbor.com I also have in the works a tentative arrangement with an egg farm to rescue some of their hens before they go to slaughter. It will be in Dec/Jan, when they cull their flocks. If you are interested in having some hens, learning how to care for them, and getting ready to take in some rescues (you'd have to get to work on that chicken coop!), this meeting might be of interest to you. People in the group consider their birds to be no different than other companion animals, such as dogs and cats. (Note that while some people in the group are vegetarian, most people aren't. I am.) Also, if you can rescue some roosters, I know plenty of beautiful, sweet young roosters that need a home and might be put down if they can't find one (they are at animal control or people's homes). Young roosters are very easy to integrate into an existing chicken flock, even if you have some older roosters already.
