> where do vegans go for lunch in the Palo Alto/ LA/ MV neighborhood?

Sigh, the restaurant scene is definitely duller in PA without Bay Leaf :-( Here's some photos from their last day:

Anyways, I don't live in that area, so can't give you any personal recommendations ... BUT, I would suggest you use the "Veg Food Finder" tool that's part of the Ultimate Guide (UG). Basically, you enter an address, a search radius, and food type (vegetarian, vegan, v-friendly, etc) and it'll display all results on an interactive google map. Many restaurants have reviews in UG, and that's a good way sometimes to get a feel for what people think.

Here's the links:

Ultimate Guide to Vegetarian Living in the SF Bay Area - http://bayareaveg.org/ugThis is the main page for UG and has links for everything. To search by address - use middle tab, "City/Address Search". It's also available: http://bayareaveg.org/finder

How to review a restaurant in the Ultimate Guide

And this is my favorite page in UG because if you haven't seen it before, it lists the Top Ten PLUS all the latest reviews.

Top Ten Vegetarian Restaurants

Of course, this rating of restaurants is based entirely on reviews in UG, whereas the ongoing BEST OF VEG survey is based entirely on votes, so the top ten in UG could be very different than BEST OF VEG winners. So for anyone who hasn't voted, please do so - it's a great way to promote the restaurants that do the *best* job at serving the veg community, hence promoting vegetarianism.

There is NOTHING like Bay Leaf, where you could bring a big group or

just drop in by yourself and hang out and probably see someone you

know. I was on vacation when they closed and I'm in shock. How lucky we

were while they were open!!!

Bueno Bueno on El Cam near Showers does the " Uncle Doug Vegan Burrito, "

which is huge. Also Pluto's on University is " cafeteria style " and it's

pretty easy to find something.--Candace

Here are some more vegan-friendly restaurants in Palo

Alto that come to mind:

Darbar Indian Cuisine (129 Lytton Ave) offers a great

weekday lunch buffet with many vegan options.

Kan Zeman (274 University Ave) top-notch Mediterranean

food. For a quicker option check out sister restaurant

Mediterranean Wraps (425 S. California Ave)

Zao Noodle Bar (261 University Ave) Several delicious

stir-frys and noodle dishes that are labeled vegan

Whole Foods (74 Emerson St.) Great Deli and salad bar.

Rojoz Gourmet Wraps (60 Town & Country Village)

flavorful wraps prepared quickly.

It is true that compared to the rest of the Bay Area,

Palo Alto is somewhat lacking in the veg scene.

However, compared to South-Eastern Indiana, where I am

currently attending school, Palo Alto is vegan heaven.

So enjoy!
