Black China Cakes

I've always found Black China cakes dry and disappointing. I'm sorry to be critical of a bakery that makes vegan cakes, but when vegan desserts aren't good, non-vegans who try them end up thinking they can't be good. That's why I'm saying it. I'm not sure if Whole Foods makes vegan cakes, but they make delicious vegan cookies & muffins, so they might be another option. And I love Maggie Mudd's and Rainbow soy cream (I actually prefer Rainbow to Maggie Mudd's, but Rainbow doesn't do a cake).

Whole Foods does make vegan cakes, & although they're pricey, from the Mark Hopkins you could take the trolley down to the end of the line on California to the Whole Foods at California & Franklin. It'd be very easy. Thea

Whole food made yummy chocolate vegan cake and sometime vanilla vegan cake. You

can always make an order ahead of time.

I would urge you to give Black China cakes another try. I have had the

same experience as others have reported here. They are usually moist,

the icing is wonderful, and overall the best I've ever had. The only

exception is their vegan Vanilla Bean cake - it IS dry and

disappointing. The chocolate ones are best, altho their Sour Cream

Coconut is also super good. My favorite is Chocolate Mocha. But I get

the most requests from my non-vegan family for the German Chocolate.
