Guest guest
Hi,I know BAVeg has the ultimate guide, which I use a lot to find veg restaurants. But I am also wanting to find a list of restaurants with vegan options on the menu. In other words, non-veg restaurants with at least one vegan option. I am especially interested in finding restaurants that serve breakfast, but which have a vegan dish on the menu. I end up in situations all the time where I am with friends who are not vegan and we want to get breakfast - it would be nice to have a list of restaurants to choose from rather than blindly hoping I find a place that will accommodate me. Most searches on the Internet land me on websites that list only restaurants that are fully/primarily vegetarian.Does anyone know if there is a list somewhere out there to this end? I know we like to support vegetarian restaurants, but for practical reasons it would also be nice to know what other options there are out there. Thanks!Kristy The fish are biting. Guest guest
Kristy, The BAVeg UG does list vegan friendly and vegetarian friendly (but not vegetarian) restaurants. Here's the link to vegan friendly and above restaurants. Many of them are not vegetarians places: http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/index.htm?city=-1 & cat=1 & veg=3 & submit=Search & search_script=%2Fug%2Findex.htm Also, if you're willing to call ahead, the few times I find myself stuck with a plan to go to a "mixed" restaurant, I will call ahead. A lot of places will accommodate special diets. There are a couple of non vegetarian restaurants I've been too often enough that I know what to order, even though there is NOTHING vegan on the menus, the chef will make a vegan dish for me. I much prefer going to veg*n restaurants but there are resources to get the info you want. Best wishes. Guest guest
"I know we like to support vegetarian restaurants, but for practical reasons it would also be nice to know what other options there are out there. Thanks!" In many parts of the Bay Area, sadly, there are no veg restaurants. So, if you do find a place that you think merits being included in the Guide (i.e. very vegan or vegetarian friendly, OR it's in an area where finding veg choices are tough), we would strongly encourage you to add them to the Ultimate Guide, which will help others who are also looking. Ultimate Guide http://bayareaveg.org/ug See link to 'add a business' or go directly to http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/merch.htm?action=checkadd Breakfast foods are especially difficult, even at veg places! You can always try keyword searches in UG, like "breakfast" or "brunch" etc. The reason why UG is so wonderful as a resource is that so many of you are so wonderful at providing new information, updates, and reviews -- that's what keeps it going! Thanks for your help with this. Guest guest
I just had an excellent vegan meal at the Samovar Tea Lounge above the waterfall at the Yerba Buena Gardens. I had no idea Samovar was even there. There's another one in the Castro. The Soy Matcha Shake and Maki Bowl (veggies, rice, and tofu) are tasty. Here's the menu: http://www.samovartea.com/html/lounge/menu.cfm-Rose
