Guest guest
I spoke with Assembly member Patty Berg, my local representative (for northern Sonoma County up through Humboldt) about AB 1634, the bill that would mandate spaying and neutering of pets statewide (with exceptions for certain “show” animals, police and service animals, etc.). I was told by a harried staffer that they are getting a lot of calls and most are from those opposed to the bill. Not good! The opposed are those who profit from breeding animals, even knowing full well that they are the cause of unbelievable suffering and death due to pet overpopulation. The bill has passed two committees and will go before the full Assembly sometime late this month. It’s very important that you call your assembly member and let her/him know you support this bill. It is the single most important thing you can do to prevent animal suffering right now. If you need to locate your Assembly member, go here and type in your zip code: http://www.legislature.ca.gov/port-zipsearch.html If you live in Sonoma County there are three different potential districts so, unless you live in Guerneville or Santa Rosa, don’t assume it’s Patty Berg. If you know you’re in Patty Berg’s district, her number is: 707-576-2526. Tell your representative where you live and that you SUPPORT AB 1634. Also be sure to ask what their position is. When I asked I was told that Patty did not have one yet but would by the end of the week. I asked them to call me as soon as she knew and I will call again Friday if I haven’t heard. Make sure to tell them that you want to know what their position is ASAP. Thanks everyone! Steve Stephen Wells, Executive Director Animal Legal Defense Fund 170 E.
