Guest guest
Hi folks Wondering if anyone has been to this place - looks like another place to get a vegan cheeze pizza! They offer a variety of vegetarian pizzas and say "For a vegan option, ask us to hold the cheese or use a soy cheese substitute on any of our vegetarian pizzas." They have marked the items which are 'vegetarian' and 'vegan' on the menu (which is nice) http://www.bobbygspizzeria.com/menu.html They're in the Guide so if you want to be the first to review them! http://www.bayareaveg.org/ug/display.htm?id=778 Cheers, Tammy Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Guest guest
" not all soy cheese is vegan " That is true, but since they state " vegan option " I would have assumed that the soy cheese is vegan. I guess you never know, though. The Mars candy company thinks that some vegetarians would be OK with eating an enzyme out of a poor dead calf's stomach. Maybe the next person who goes to Bobby G's could ask what kind of cheese they use and let us know on the list. Karen
Guest guest
Ask and ye shall find out! I emailed and asked and Robert Gaustad, the chef (who is also a part-owner) replied: "we came up with a recipe of organic tofu, garlic, lemon juice, soy milk, spices, fresh herbs, and olive oil. We love it and never run out...or rarely run out, that is. It melts well on slices, has a great flavor, and is just all around better than the Follow Your Heart mozzarella." They call this house brand of soy cheeze 'Fauxmage' and according to the chef, it's been very well-received. He also said: "I hope to see you in here and I'd love feedback on our Fauxmage and other vegan offerings. We'll expand the vegan menu in the coming months. By the way,we also have a great vegan spinach and mushroom ravioli that we serve with our organic marinara." I know Lanesplitter's uses a ricotta cheeze on their pizzas that's based on a Tofutti product .... So if you have already tried their house brand vegan cheeze, please report back! From memory, these are the restaurants that offer a pizza for vegetarians with vegan cheeze Pizza Plaza (Oakland, Follow Your Heart) <-- all vegetarian Bobby G's (Berkeley, house brand) Lanesplitter's (Berkeley and Oakland, house brand) Panhandle Pizza (SF, Follow Your Heart) Are there others that I've missed? Guest guest
Here’s an addition to the list: In Sonoma County, Slice of Life restaurant, in Sebastopol, now offers Follow Your Heart cheese on its pizzas as well as its own tofu ricotta. They have also added vegan pepperoni to their menu of toppings and their pesto pizza is also vegan. Guest guest
Two more that are Vegetarian but not Vegan... Patxi's in Palo Alto and SF has soy cheese, but, NOT Vegan when I asked in the past, too bad as it is really good if you like deep dish. (Or so I hear, ;-)) Pizz'a Chicago in Palo Alto and SJ has soy cheese, again don't think it is Vegan. Guest guest
I highly recommend the deep dish pizza at Patxi's without cheese. I'm a regular customer there, and they'll gladly make it out without cheese for their vegan customers. And it's so rich and delicious that it doesn't need the soy cheese anyway. Guest guest
I'm not sure if this was brought up on the vegan cheese pizza. I apologize if you have talked about this - I'm relatively new to the group. But did Pan Handle Pizza close down? We tried to get in touch with them a couple times and got VM. Then today we tried and their phone was disconnected. Please take care, Mari Manglaras Stoe , Steve Simitzis <steve wrote: > > I highly recommend the deep dish pizza at Patxi's without cheese.
